A'erina was upstairs at home, putting some touches to the now reworked bedroom arrangements had started to take place. With a new apprentice on the horizon, she could continue her normal Alchemy routine at a much more relaxed pace, and focus more on looking after her child. Of course, She was still plagued by several things so emotions were all over the place, and the smallest thing would irritate her. She would put something somewhere, and moved it 2 minutes later, and then move it back, and forth. A repeated process that would infuriate her. Many items have been flung across the room in frustration. She had a feeling something might be up with herself, or the baby, but it was hard to tell because everything seemed far too normal, and that's what was bugging her the most. Eventually, she'd kick a dresser and be satisfied with that, pulling out an almost big enough shirt that it would atleast cover most of her, as she hadnt the clothes, nor did she have the effort to go and buy some bigger ones for the sake of a few months. A'erina would head downstairs to the living room to vent at F'loki.

As she made her way down the stairs, she was tying her hair up into a ponytail...

"Why is it nothin' wants to sit right? Why do I move it, and it still don't look right, but then I move it back, and it doesn't look right... Ugh..."

F’loki was not having the greatest of times. Running around like he was headless trying to find answers and doing preparations for the future does not offer a healthy and robust sleep schedule, and neither did the answers he received do much for his peace of mind. Hardly in the house for half a bell, he could hear A’erina flipping out about something or other upstairs. He also….really did not want to step on that bomb and decided discretion was the better part of valor. Letting her “get it out of her system,” he settled in place on the sofa to try to catch a short nap….only to hear A’erina stomping down the stairs, coming for him. Fuck.

“Er…uh…well you know how it is. Sometimes…yawn…sometimes stuff looks off, but it’s really fine. Could be a lot of bundled up energy. You been getting out much?”

He was dressed casually but looked like he had not slept in days, an appearance that was more apparent with his hair tied back.

A'erina raised an eyebrow at his response.

"Not in the slightest, where am I supposed to go? I've been gettin' out when I can, but I can't exactly go for a mornin' run."

She sat herself on the edge of the sofa mear his head, she leaned over to grab his hand in some kind ofvile hand holding activity, interlocking her fingers with his.

"Maybe I'm just overthinkin' it... Maybe it is fine after all. Whatever."

She noticed his rather fatigued and tired expression on his face.

"Have you not been sleepin'? Was it something Eligor said to you? You've not been the best company since you spoke to him... Dare I ask... But is everythin' goin' to be okay?"

His face deadpans.

“How to put it….The short version is that far more than likely, the baby will be fine. Turns out it wasn’t an accident that I can have children either—he’d never intended to make it so I can’t in the first place. That said…”

He trails off and drags his free hand across his face.

“He doesn’t know if you will be fine. The child should inherit my enhancements to some degree and that might not go over well at all for you, complications wise. I also mentioned how you have a bit of a problem with your….other self, which you apparently kinda told him about, and uh….yeah. He would have to study you according to him which I don’t really trust for obvious reasons.”

"Yeah, I don't particularly want him an' his boffins proddin' an' pokin' me... Wait, what do you mean 'Enhancements'? The baby ain't gonna be born with webbed feet is it?"

“….I don’t have webbed feet. But I can pick up some absurdly heavy stuff now for example. If we apply that to a baby in a womb kicking and thrashing….you know? Concerning.”

"And you thought this was a good time to tell me this now?"

“You asked, and it’s not set in stone that it will be a problem at all. It’s not like you’re made of glass or anything either so in that scenario it’s like….up in the air. I was trying to think up solutions first.”

"So let me get this right, the baby could be born abnormally strong and possibly end up bein' like me? You realise this is probably the stupidest idea I've ever had, right?" She sighed " But I suppose there's nothin' that can be done now. You sure you still wanna be around through all those sleepless nights?"

He rolls his gaze onto her, searching her expression before he responds. He simply shrugs after a time, shaking his head.

“I already put in the work to make sure I can be around for those sleepless nights. I’m very aware it’s going to suck more than I can imagine at first but…”

He tries and fails to stifle a laugh.

“Can’t think of anything I’d wanna do more really! This actually reminds me of a small story—indulge me for a moment.”

F’loki grabs her hand a little tighter and readjusts himself so he’s sitting up a bit more.

“When I was working in a tavern the old lady that helped me out had me try this dried meat cause she was getting into curing or something. It was one of the most rancid things I’d ever put in my mouth before or since. I complained obviously and she said something about eating food that sucks being fun sometimes. Had no clue what she was talkin’ about at the time, and it just annoyed me. But that’s kinda how I look at—“

He cut himself off, realizing how bad that sounded.

“—W-what I’m saying is, even the bad times become a good memory when I experience it with you. I was laughing to myself just a few days ago about how you and my sisters were at each other’s throats. I’m all in for sure. Are you?”

"No."

She responded almost immediately with little thought.

"This whole ordeal is terrifyin'. I'm scared because I don't know what I'm supposed to be expectin', What I'm supposed to do, or if I'm doin' it right. I can't even fuckin' decide where things go and I'm supposed to be lookin' after a baby?! I feel like I'm in over my head."

“Well we both are. That’s why there are two parents generally you know? Eases the burden some.”

“I don’t have magic that will make you suddenly feel better. At least I don’t think I do. But I also don’t really believe in running from what we feel, even if it sucks at the time.  I’m also dumb though, so you probably have even more reason to be worried about everything compared to me.”

"I didn't say that, end of the day i'm the one carryin' 'em. Can't exactly just run away from this. It's just... Y'know... Mood swings and stuff. One day I can be excited and the next day I hate myself. It just happens, it's almost unavoidable." 

She patronizingly patted him on the head. 

"An' I've told you before that yes, you are pretty dumb, but you are my dumb. So aslong as you don't plan on bailin' on me, I'll see it all through and hopefully what I've got planned will work out in the end."

“Yeah? First I’m hearin’ about plans I think. What’s going on?”

"The baby needs to be a boy."

“Uhhhh….Okay. Wouldn’t it be fine either way though? Actually more importantly what does this have to do with planning? Not like you can plan that.”

"Because there's a high chance that, if it's a girl, I'll lose..." She grabs a clump of hair with emphasis on the white parts " ...This, all of the white will be gone and it'll more than likely be part of her hair. Because it'll happen to her too. It always happens, generations of it. My grandfather figured it out but it was too late for my Gran as she passed it on to my mom and my mom passed it onto me. An' before you ask, my sister's have it too but it's not as bad, they all just have a little extra aether compared to most normal people. It's like a parasite, it chooses which one it wants. I just happened to be the unlucky one."

She reached over to the nerby side table and grabbed her book off it, flicking through some pages.

"I've been lookin' into this the best I can... My Grandad kinda didn't want me... Y'know... Doin' business. So that's your fault, I'm blamin' you for that. But, I want to be the one to stop it for good. I've got enough information to help but, I need to see what happens with the baby first. There's nothin' I could find that meant boys in my family got it. So..."

She let got of his hand and sort of began twiddling her fingers together uncomfortably.

"...What I'm saying is, is that when I go I plan to take her with me. I'm young enough to have figured it out before breeding like rabbits. But still, I should have waited a little longer. So yeah, that's on you."

He just stares blankly, not really sure how to process or respond to all of that.

“….So the plan is to….pass on my hair instead of yours? I mean if this is a parasitic presence….”

He trails off, confusing himself.

"You know what? Don't worry about it, you just get some sleep, you look tired. Leave it with me, I will sort it."

“You can get some rest too though, it’s not like you’re gonna pop in a day or two.”

"Even if I fall asleep it's not like I get long before I have a nightmare or something."

He thinks.

“Think cuddling might help? I’ll be right there the whole time.”

"...Fine." She walks around to the sofa and sits next to him, relaxing a little " You need to give me some names, by the way. Or you just gonna wait until they are here to surprise me with one."

He pulls her a bit closer and settles back into the sofa.

“Not gonna lie…I haven’t thought about any names yet. Spent a lot of time trying to make sure everything else is fine first, but I can think of a few names while we rest.”

A'erina does as requested and closes her eyes as she cuddled him.

"Well... Let me know what you come up with because I already have an idea."

“Mmn.”

He doesn’t say anything else and just closes his eyes, enjoying the moment and the rest.
