I'm currently juggling the idea of something for Luto that may bring a bit more backstory to the character, just running some ideas through the ol noodle before i commit, I may tag people and all would be included if there in the area of Ulda etc.

Pipino arrived home at her family's estate and laid her large ledger down on her personal desk with a sigh, contemplating the conversation she had had with her new business partner in the dark basement of the cafe. "Mater Inanis...," she whispered to herself before putting a hand up to her ear and touching her linkpearl gently. 

"Hello - it is Pipino," she started. "Eupheme? Or... Well anyone who would know anything about Garlean words... Would the words 'Mater Inanis' have any meaning to you? I recently came upon them and had a... a stray curiosity to know their meaning."

Eupheme's quick to pick up her linkpearl. Though, a bit of arguing and someone else can be heard in the background. She must be at the Quicksand. Her voice is one with definite intrigue, as she speaks up. "Mater Inanis... That doesn't ring a bell, I'll have to say. Must be some really old word... Or might not even be Garlean at all. Though I stand to be corrected."

"I was told it was something Garleans called someone - like a title maybe," she clarified, remaining vague.

Oddly enough, Gair plucks up his linkpearl at the mention of Garlean words. "In my experience, many Garleans call for their 'mater', or mother under duress. Like many dying soldiers, pretty close to ours." He trails off before adding. "I could.. ask someone about this other word."

After likely throwing something across his apartment at his insulter, very likely confusing to Miyuki. Gair pokes his linkpearl back in and gives it a cursory tap. "It was just directed at me as one.. but the 'void', the void-void.. and smarts. Could call someone an idiot that way, rather punch 'em in the mouth."

Pipino stays silent, letting the word sink into her very being. She remembered the shadows, her partner's dark eyes, the soft chorus of voices at the edges of the room as she sang idly after touching her aether. At last, she spoke back into the linkpearl. "I.. see. What a silly thing to have heard upon the wind. I suppose just some nonsense in passing. Thank you for your assistance though. It would have driven me to madness not knowing."

Being a lifelong citizen of Ul'dah, Gair likes neither the word 'Void' or 'Garlean'. On his end the slurping of some sort of beverage can be heard, a long pause before he finally speaks up. "Of course.. just, if there's any Voidsent Garleans, or any variation'a the two, just hollar, aye?"

"Yes, I will keep you appraised should any trouble arise," she states, twisting his agreement to one that better suited her.

'I would assume it was more of an insult to the person. In passing I haven't heard inanis in combination with Mater but I have heard Mater in other rude combination."

"What a strange insult that would be!" she says in an enthusiastic voice, her actual expression completely deadpan.

Pipino stepped up to A'erina's doorstep and took a deep breath, releasing it in a sigh before knocking. As she waited to be let in, she contemplated the surreal nature of the visit and the circumstances that led to her being there.

A'erina was snoozing in her comfy chair, when the sound of knocking on the door to the house could be heard, she sprung up and the sounds of clattering and banging could be heard outside as she made her way to the door, as various things were being kicked across the room, the door open slightly and A'erina peeked her head through and looked outside " Ah! Pip! Come in, Come in, I was just about to contact you!" She held the door open for her lalafell friend as she walked in and took a look outside as if to make sure she wasn't followed. " Ignore the mess, I've been a bit lazy recently. So what can I help you with?"

Pipino stepped inside and attempted to politely keep her gaze from wandering around the room and appraising the extent of the mess. She clasped her hands in front of her, the gloved fingers wringing a little bit as she began. 

"Well, first, thank you for having me. But to get to the reason... You do recall the conversation I had with Eligor a couple days ago, yes? About the... um... job I have been given?"

" Some things I recall, He wanted you to get some drugs, then started yapping about human blood and that's where I stopped paying attention." A'erina motioned for Pipino to follow her down the stairs " I don't know how much use to you I can be, but I'm sure you wouldn't have come to me in the first place if you didn't believe there was something I can do."

Pipino stepped over a few things scattered about the floor as she followed, opting to keep her shoes on as she figured A'erina did not care too much about that sort of thing. 

"Well, it is not as if I have never done anything... illegal before, so.... So while I am a bit nervous about it, it is not because I am a afraid of being caught. I just have no idea how to... How to go about trying to get this drug. You know .. protocol and all that."

A'erina reached the bottom of the stairs and walked over to a worktop and grabbed a tankard, half filled with booze, possibly a few days old, she shrugged and took a swig, then she wiped her mouth with her sleeve.

" Well, it ain't nothing like walking into the Exchange and asking for some fruit or cheap ore. It usually involves asking around, but you have to be discreet about it, as some folks dont want to get caught and because it's their only source of income. Pearl Lane is as good a place as any to start with though, alot of my business partners and I have had dealings there in the past." She puts a hand on the side of her face and her ears twitch as she thinks " Can't say I've heard any chatter about your specific kind of request though, and usually someone reaches out to me when something new shows up."

Pipino stood at the bottom of the stairs not exactly sure where she should stand or sit, her training of not acting too familiarly in someone else's home kicking in very visibly. 

"Well, of course not. If it was that simple, I would not be here. I just... Without leads even to what the substance is called, I wonder how I might... discreetly make inquiries. Papari is really the only contact I have that regularly lingers there. Even then, I do not think she deals in such transactions. If you were me, what would be your first step."

She walks over to a stool and slides it with her foot over to Pipino, "I'd Find the shadiest looking fella as I possibly could. If he's twitching, looking around way too much, easily scared or nervous, stuttering voice or even talking to 'imself, chances are he's hiding something or he knows something that he can't tell anyone. 'Course, some coin is arguably the best remedy for someone to talk. " 

 She hoists herself up onto a counter, seating herself and leans over to a small setup and switches on a flame with a beaker containing a liquid situated on top of it, watching the contents for a moment before continuing.

 " Although this has me curious and my curiosity wants to have a look at whatever this 'drug' actually is. "

"Is that really how it is? Would it not be fairly obvious for someone to sell somethinf like that and fit so readily into a stereotype." 

Pipino walks over to the stool and hoists herself atop it gracefully. 

"And... If you are suggesting I buy you some to, that is not happening. The less you are involved in these matters the better, and I did not want to resort to asking advice at the first for that reason."

" It depends on what they do in their own time that stereotypes someone. I made it less obvious for myself most of the time because, for one thing, never take my own product, some of these guys do, it's just how it is. Some of the mild stuff ain't bad for you though, just ask Gair." 

A'erina frowns, however " I see that the reason for your visit is solely based on past experiences in the drug trade and nothing to do with my alchemical knowledge. Still, if I can help, I can point you in a direction that would no doubt help." 

A'erina flicks through her book to a particular page and let's out an " a-ha!"

" There's a Hyur who frequents Pearl Lane, real close to the Quicksand, likes to get people as they leave when they are intoxicated, makes them less likely to argue with him. Name is Sabert. If anyone would know of anything that you're after, he has an ear to the ground at all times so I would start with him."

"Sabert...I shall remember that. And look, A'erina, I am not here stop you from doing anything. If you are curious about this and would like to pursue it, I shall not stop you, but I shall also not facilitate your entry into it. And yes, what I am here for is not your alchemical knowledge. I have not the slightest understanding of anything about how these things work, and as I do not plan on taking it myself, I merely would like to finish my unpleasant task in a quick and expedient manner and let Eligor deal with all of the science. My only goal is to accomplish this task safely and without turning too many heads. To uphold promises I made to return to my family safely."

"With this drug being as strong as it is and causing the reactions it does, if a dealer is taking their own supply, I would rather not look the green little girl lest I provoke their ire. Any...any idea how I should dress or...or anything I can do to behave a certain way?"

"Folk like them don't have a dress code, Pip. If you're worried about appearances, I'd say you need to ditch the dresses and frocks, maybe the gloves too, Dress more like someone who has enough gil to get by, loose fitting garments, no special weaves or intricate stitchings, no embroidery or fancy clasps and buckles. If nothing else, you'd at least not draw attention to yourself. " 

She stops for a moment as she tried to think of a way that Pipino could act " I have no idea on how you should act, it might take a long time for you to do things like drop formalities, the curtsy, y'know, things like that. Or you could just pretend to be someone else, Imitate that lug of a cousin of mine, talk and act like he does, Minus the drinking, of course."

"Oh my... I would also have to cut out his flirtations as well. I have told Eligor this once, but I really am no actress. I do not know why he insists on putting me in these strange situations. But...can you imagine how that would even sound? Me, acting like Gair?" she said with a little laugh. "I...I would attempt it, but I fear that is a bit too embarassing! I can manage to sound quite rude when I am angry though. Perhaps I could pretend to be upset... I also imagine I could borrow that wig that Langston used at my Nameday to look like Pipin! But...oh, I bet I would look so much like my mother that it would be quite scary... "

" I don't think you'd need to do anything too crazy. Maybe just let your hair down instead of keeping it all neat and tidy, y'know, ruffle it up a little and make it look more natural, like you are too busy with your everyday work that you just don't have time to be worrying about your hair. The idea would be to blend in, you start walking around with wigs and talking like a great oaf, heads are gonna turn. It's easy for me, all I have to do is see someone I know and I get a " Hey Erina, how's things, want to trade' etcetera. I don't know what you've gotten yourself into, and, curious as I am, I hope you find out whatever it is he's after. "

"That is a luxury I am afraid I will not be trusted to ever find out. I... I wonder though, if I act more agreeable and succeed in more things if I will be told more. I would like to know his plans. Perhaps if I do not have the power to stop any potentially negative machinations, I might be able to mobilize others to join me in helping to stop them. But it very well could be that he is an enigmatic hero of sorts who simply operates in gray areas. Either way, I think you are right. Blue hair or no, it would likely be better for me to act naturally.  I wonder though.... How much do these things even cost? I am fairly certain Eligor is asking me to do this due to me still having a few resources at my disposal, even if they are no longer bottomless. But I would rather not be a target to be mugged or taken advantage of."

"The cost of these things vary depending in the potency. If it's something mild and folks are using it just for a little pick me up, it won't cost you a whole lot. Whatever it is you're after could be a considerably large amount, though. I can assure you that you won't get mugged, take what I've told you with you, all you have to do is act like you are just another person,  that there is nothing special about you, and you will be fine, I promise. "

A'erina jumps off the counter and looks at some bottles on a rack but carries on talking.

" You are probably going to get yourself into some trouble, though. It's inevitable when you get involved in this kinda of thing

"Well.... What kind of trouble? Trouble with Eligor or... With even more people? Long term? Short term?" She looked worried, perching on that stool, hands balling the fabric of her skirt without thinking about it.

" You do understand that you are looking to buy a substance that is undoubtedly really really bad, right? We are talking something that seems to be on underground levels of secrecy. You're already in some deep shit with Eligor anyway, but you play the obedient puppy so he keeps you alive, that's your trouble to deal with, I'm talking about trouble if you do things like ask too many questions or speak to too many folks. This is not something you can become accustomed to at the flick of a switch, you have to be prepared to get into a fight, people like this can be volatile and hostile and will look for any reason to start a ruckus."

"Of course I do, but I do not plan to do such things with regular frequency. Surely doing this one time would not mark me as a regular customer in such circles. I intend to speak to exactly the amount of people necessary. And... Well I shall come armed, of course. Should I...should I be worried?" She asked honestly. "As in... are you worried about me doing it? Say you had to place a wager as to my success. How large a bet would you place?"

" I think you'd be a lot safer if you had company, but that ain't going to happen."

 Noticing Pipino's concern in regards to the situation, A'erina wanted to assure her it wouldn't be so bad, the caring nature shared by all their friends but the side of her that would rather see Pipino fail, or get hurt was more apparent 

" I'd wager more on your failure as opposed to your success. I'm not worried about you doing this, not in the slightest. You are doing this on your own and I want you to succeed, but I will still be here regardless of the outcome, Should you need me."

"You are not worried, yet you would bank on me failing? I appreciate your honesty, A'erina, but... Well, I cannot say I understand your logic in the slightest."

"But perhaps I would agree with you. Part of me feels this will not be as bad as I have made it seem in my head, and the other part says I am fully I'll equipped. Perhaps luck and charm shall have to carry me!"
