Nameday
Eligor opened his eyes. The world he had come to know and accept as a white expanse of nothingness–save the for the chains that run along into an unknown and unseen distance. What he found instead was a bright blue night sky in a field of dark blue flowers. Shining stars floated and bobbed about the environment as if it were normal, and large trees looped around each other in playful angles.
“You have gotten stronger. Come out.”
At his call, a bright light manifested in front of Eligor. When the flare had settled, floating before him was a small but still indistinct form of a little lalafellin girl with wings of light. He stared at her for a long time, his expression somewhat missing.
“Do you want to play?” He asked, ruffling the hair at the top of her head. “Its has been a while since we have had a chance to really do so.
At this, the child began to nod enthusiastically, pulling him along into a stray playground she had made. They played together for what seemed like an eternity, and all without a single protest out of Eligor. This turned into something of a game for the child, where they would attempt to irritate him by breaking some part of the playground, or cheating during their games, but he never said a thing. He only played along. Over time, what was fun began to give way to anxiety, and eventually it became too much to bear. The child pulled them both out of the playground and back into the blue garden, staring at him quietly.
“A-am I in trouble?” the child asked, but was already lowering their head and slumping, causing Eligor to lift them up and pull them into a small hug.
“You aren't in trouble child, I just wanted you to have some fun. I'm….sorry if it seemed like I was upset about something. But I do want you to listen, because I likely can only say this now. Listen to your mother, and your sisters. They are your family, and they are important. Eventually, you will be expected to do things. People will want things from you. But whether or not you respond to them is YOUR choice. No one else can make it for you, and no one can damn you for it.”
He pulled back from the hug before planting something of an awkward kiss on the child's shining forhead.
“Well, you'll decide what you want easily enough either way. I love you. Oh, and happy nameday.”
He gave a final smile before disappearing from the world, leaving the child with their confusion at the foreign affection and the cryptic words.
