An Unenthusiastic Cat Seeks Out a Lizard - 01/20/21
[R'Lamiza]
Lami strode into the base camp of Bojza, groaning to herself at the days recent work of trading both information and supplies with the local soldiers. Though one thing plagued her mind. The ruins to the north, and the lack of any tangible information regarding its significance in the war effort.
She felt that same urge she did back in her days when fighting for the Doman liberation, and she was not going to deny it any further. She made her way towards the medics tent. Where she started to peek for the white faced Auri. Though she truly wished she had a different source she could turn too.
[Veldi]
After some asking around, she would have found her quarry in a hot enclosed tent, working to see up a grunt’s gash.
[R'Lamiza]
Lami would witness this and take a few steps back. She wasn’t one to disrupt her duties. Though after a moment of consideration she’d tap on the door. ”Another one needs looked at.” She’d say simply. ”Whenever yer done obviously.”
[Veldi]
“Alright, sit down over there.” She jerks her head towards some makeshift bench and resumes working.
[R'Lamiza]
Lami did just that. Sitting down and waiting for her “checkup” figuring it would make it much less… odd for her to be there if she had an injury of some kind.
[Veldi]
It did not take her long to finish, and with a light slap on the back she sent the soldier on his way, turning to Lami.
“You don’t look banged up.”
[R'Lamiza]
Lami clasped her hands over her heart. ”Me injury is of the heart…” she’d then start bleeding from the wrist. Obviously this was self inflicted wound. A light cut down the length of her wrist. Something that might need stitching in a few spots. ”Oh look. I’m bleedin’“ though it was obvious this cut wasn’t given to her by any blade she’d smile. “And while I have yer undivided attention….” she’d extend her wrist out. ”mind if I ask a few questions?”
[Veldi]
“I’m here AINT I? Just ask already. People what actually need help can’t get it if I’m…just what do ya want?”
[R'Lamiza]
Lami looked down at her now bleeding wrist. ”Well… I’m still bleeding either way.” She said urging Veldi to do her healer thing while she picked her brain. ”Theatrics are important in current settings. ”Coughing abit. ”Anyways. Have you found anythin’ ‘bout them ruins? Sumthin’ keeps rubbin’ me wron’ whenever I get close ta em…”
[Veldi]
She yanks Lami's arm closer before slowly beginning to clean and assess the wound.
“Blue tried to save someone while out there. He died, but she got a list off his body with names on it. Some of them were crossed out but the location where he died had way too many vantage points and escape routes. I'm banking on it being a hit, especially with how Blue got hit right after finding him.”
“I also think that there might be an entrance to an underground hidey hole somewhere out there. Saw some strange smoke stacks. Basically, you might not wanna go out there alone. It's certainly being watched. Second we got close to something we shouldn't have strange things started happening.”
[R'Lamiza]
The wound looks like something that had just simply appeared. A clean straight split down the outside edge of her forearm doing from wrist to elbow. “I see. Well, luckily for me. I have an idea of how ta avoid unwanted attention on me end. Ships leavin’ soon to resupply. Will be gone fer a few days tops. I’m plannin’ on “going along” and us my presumed absence as cover whilest I do me diggin’.” Pausing for a moment “Aye I managed ta catch her not ta lon’ ago. Seems she’s gettin’ a better idea of what this kind of place is like. Though she still wants ta keep goin’ can’t say she lacks courage… er stupidity. Whatever ya wanna call it.”
[Veldi]
“I call it you bringing her here.”
She does not seem to want to bother using stitches, instead wrapping the girl's arm in some bandages.
“Something has been bothering me about this drug.”
“It's made from Alkaid's blood yeah? Why not the footstools? Or mine?”
[R'Lamiza]
Lami shrugged. ”Well it was either me er sum shady shite with bad intentions.” Pausing as she learned this. ”I… couldn’t tell ya. I didn’t know it was made from anyones blood in particular…me only guess would be she’s sort of the counter measure ta the grimoire. Correct?” Rolling her eyes as Veldi did a Haphazard job of addressing the wound but it wasn’t anything she was keenly worried about.
[Veldi]
“I'm saying its less work. Replicating her aether frequency cannot be easier than simply getting a fragment of the grimoire.”
“So why?”
[R'Lamiza]
Lami shrugged”Well that was me only guess. I’m not as informed on such thin’s. Though I suppose I do have sum skin in this game… but if that’s all ya got ya go off I guess I’ll have ta bet on top of me game. Been awhile but it’s like a bike…. er a chocobo.”
[Veldi]
“If you don’t know anything about it why do you keep those daggers inside of you?”
“Do you want to be a pawn?”
[R'Lamiza]
“They are useful and I’ve grown attached” she gave Veldi a look. ”And say I did kick em ta the curb. I’m still stuck in the middle of all this shite. And far weaker then I am with them. So welcome ta me shite show…. not that yer not a main player in this sandwich we call a war.”
[Veldi]
“I’m not at all. Just another tool. Only problem is I’m faulty.”
“Strange that you seem so attached to power but not taking my blood. Or the footstool’s for that matter.”
[R'Lamiza]
“Ya… I took some of his… but not enough ta do much I suppose. I had a… voice over me shoulder that stopped me from goin’ all in.”
Lami then laughed ”I doubt yer viewed as faulty as I am.”
[Veldi]
She did not respond, instead looking towards the tent’s entrance.
“So do you need me to be somewhere or do something while you’re placing your bet?”
[R'Lamiza]
Lami shook her head. ”Nope. Was just pickin’ yer brain. Though if I do end up a rottin’ pile of meat. Least do me the favor of sendin’ me back home so I can at least get thrown in a ditch where I grew up.” Standing up and dusting off her tunic. ”Thanks fer the touch up.”
[Veldi]
“I ain’t got a single reason to take a corpse anywhere, least of all yours so you can piss that idea right down the damn drain.”
“Best you can hope for is bein’ poisoned kindling, you runny shite.”
[R'Lamiza]
Lami shrugged.”Well least I asked.” She made her way out of the tent without another word. Not expecting much more from Veldi having overstayed her welcome.
[Veldi]
Veldi put her tools away, placing various implements into a pouch before leaving the tent herself to go on another patrol.
[R'Lamiza]
Later Lami set out to do her scouting bit. She’d find her way to the ruins with little trouble. Wearing her shinobi armor set she adorned during the Doman campaign she looks like a hyur, her tail tucked in under her tunic and armor and ears flat under the full head mask. Finding a nice dark spot to hole up for the night
[Veldi]
What came first were patrols. Loud enough to be a large group, but dispersed enough to appear more organized and with purpose. As the noises grew louder, it became increasingly clear that this mystery group was moving to surround Lami’s position. They knew she was there.
[R'Lamiza]
Lami froze for a moment. Before pinching her nose. “Lovely, seems I’m not as sharp as I once was.”She thought to herself before she slipped out from her now worthless hidey hole she would still be one with the shadows now trying to see if she can’t see her newfound guests and if they had anything that could be used to detect her.
[Veldi]
While the assailants could not be seen quite yet, what Lami instead might have caught was the blinking red light that was being thrown from the darkness towards her hiding spot. Depending on how good her night vision was, she would have noticed the red light reflecting off of several weapons in the dark, and at the minimum there was at least 8 individuals from the direction of the red blinking light alone. There were a lot of visitors.
[R'Lamiza]
Lami cursed under her breath and began to move away from her spot, Seeking a new point and perhaps, Going back under the radar once again, But she had a feeling this was going to end in blood. Looking all around her from her new vantage point she would attempt to see if she could not spot more similar lights. Trying to get a better understanding of her situation.

[—]
As Lami departed from her spot, she would have noticed a nice cliff to cling to the side to, or a small pile of rubble with an opening just big enough for her to shimmy through without being seen, the other building providing similar cover to the last. Either way, Lami would have noticed that the blinking red thing exploded upon landing, engulfing the entire building in a blinding flash of white hot arcs of electricity for an instant. Interesting enough however, the force of the explosion was not concussive at all, and despite the damage it would have done to Lami, the surroundings did not appear affected at all.
[R'Lamiza]
Lami saw this explosion from her perch inside of the rubble. Grinding her teeth still using her abilities to be naked to the plane eye. But something told her that trick would do her little service. She’d sit and observe for a time longer to see if she was locked onto again or if they had a one location pin on her. Ready to move spots if they showed any signs of moving towards her location.

[???]
Rather than another attack, there was a bark that echoed through the darkness. “Hold! I sense the darkseed in this one!” The enclosing circle stopped, and a single figure walked into the ruins where Lami was moments before, still cloaked in darkness, but it's voice was unmistakably male.
“Come out. I'd rather fight your kind face to face. I know what you are. If you best me, my men have no chance. You will be let go.”
[R'Lamiza]
Lami cocked her head to the side. This idea of being one with a “Darkseed” interested her. But, she didn’t need more then a moment to know what they where referring too. She’d tap her chin for abit and decided to wait a moment or too longer. Aiming to get the man to talk abit more before she decided if it was worth her time to engage or call this a good enough and slip back behind friendly lines and wait for her ship and alibi to return.
[???]
The figure waited. When it spoke again, the voice seemed quite agitated.
“Are you truly so weak? We’re the gifts bestowed upon you so feeble you cannot even fight your natural enemy? Surely you feel it too no? The two of us were destined for this clash. You were meant to fall by my hand!”
[R'Lamiza]
Lami crawled out of her hiding spot she’d still be invisibly climbing atop the rubble and did a quick check of her surroundings to see if they where indeed the only ones before she made her move.

[???]
The group had indeed stopped when the mysterious figure told them to, but even hidden amongst shadows and wreckage it would be apparent they were ready to act on a moment’s notice.
[R'Lamiza]
Lami decided since she was already surrounded. She might as well oblige the cocky man, though she reached around her back and rolled around in her palm some flash bangs Incase her gut feeling told her he wouldn’t hold his word. Lowering herself where her feet where still firmly on the top of the ruble pile and her rear touched the back of her ankles, ready to launch herself in any needed direction should it come to that. And she dropped her cloak and called out. ”Well you sure do know how to welcome a girl, though I’m sorry but I don’t believe in that falling in love at first sight nonsense. I do hate to break a heart on our first meeting but that’s just how it is. I don’t suppose the idea of me just going about my way without blood needing to be shed is out of the question?” Thanking the night for its ability to sell her hyur disguise, keeping her eyes out of sight to avoid the obvious ploy of it all.
[???]
“If you wanted peace, you would not have brought war to our testing grounds.”
“I’d it your nature to destroy what beauty we create?”
[R'Lamiza]
Lami cocked her head abit. ”Can’t say I’m sure what exactly you mean by “brought” war here. I’m pretty sure it was already here. BUT!” She held up a single finger of her free hand” I can tell you that our definitions of beauty are quite abit different. So I’m not gonna bother touching on that. But to get more to the point, never said peace. A temporary truce so no one has to die unnecessarily just yet. I’m sure we will get more then enough chance to cut each others throats out at a later time.”
[???]
The figure laughs.
“Then offer something. What do you have to buy your way out of this situation?”
[R'Lamiza]
She tapped her chin. ”Hmmm… trade…Well… Like I said. I was more thinking a mutual peace deal. After all, I don’t expect your previous offer to come without a few strings and I do hate the sound of a rotten deal.” Knowing she was fully surrounded she’d make a rather large gamble. “Ah! Idea….. how about we do something like….”And by the time she finished speaking she was behind the figure.”This.” Throwing one of her flash bangs directly in front of the figure and then two in the direction she was going. Hoping she could blind her escape route. Not willing to try out just how good the mans word was.
@Kraxsis: `1d20` Blinded by the Light = (12) = 12
[???]
It worked. With the flash of light, Lami would have been able to see the figure for what it was. A man who appeared to be almost an exact physical replica of Gair, only clean shaven and sporting a long red mane of hair, the bulk of which was mostly haphazardly bundled into a topknot. On her way out, she might potentially notice that while she was running away, slightly to her right the enclosure seemed to have opened a bit. Even closer inspection would have revealed dead bodies, providing a clean route of escape. Regardless of whether or not she noticed this, her way out was largely unimpeded thanks to everyone having been taken off guard.
[R'Lamiza]
Lami took notice of this and took that route, knowing full well she didn’t have long before she would be chased she’d take the body riddled route that appeared to be a clear shot to escape.
[???]
Suddenly, a force from Lami's left appears to warp the air, on a collision course for her body.

[R'Lamiza]
Lami was well on her way before the sudden gust of wind snapped her to the left with a loud”Oof” sound she’d be shot in the direction. Though she wasn’t taken far off her mark she still had to regain her composure she would quickly find it and continue to make her way towards her exit now scanning for the source of the attack.

[Eligor]
Lami's answer would have come in the form of a pair of burning ember eyes staring at her from the dark, a lalafell form standing with it's arms crossed and teeth bared in an unhappy grimace.
[R'Lamiza]
Lami paused and just stared. Before she slipped out. ”Seriously?” Is all she’d say.
[—]
`Does Lami go straight back to a safe camp?`
[R'Lamiza]
After sighing she’d head back to a safe camp. Still fully disguised she keeps herself on the downlow as much as possible.
[Eligor]
Some time later, after Lami had come to a direct stop, the telltale wisp of smoke would have sounded off behind her, followed by a familiar aetheric pressure.
“What exactly do you think you are doing?”
[R'Lamiza]
Lami slowly turned around and shrugged. “Well the intent was to get some intel. Appears I wasn’t exactly prepared for that particular outcome.”
[Eligor]
“So you ran?”
[R'Lamiza]
“Outnumbered and unprepared? Yes. Should I not of?”
[Eligor]
His eyes glowed brighter, making his armor seem as if it were of fire.
“What is the point of having weapons if you are not going to use them!? Are you so weak that you cannot imagine yourself able to flee when necessary?”
[R'Lamiza]
“I see. So that’s how you see it, well to put simply. Weapons arnt going to save me from overwhelming odds. If I knew their exact number? Things would have been different. I can’t count on things I can’t see. Should I go back and slaughter them? Would that be a more appropriate response?”
[Eligor]
“You did not cease fleeing when you saw me. What excuse will you bring next?”
[R'Lamiza]
“I… good point.”
“Then I’ll go back and undo my mistake. I doubt they’ve gone far.”
[Eligor]
“To what end?”
[R'Lamiza]
“Well, simply put, had I thought more clearly I’d have taken out an enemy commander. That and maybe get my hands on those explosives that seemed intent on harming just the flesh and not anything else.”
[Eligor]
Eligor sighs and turns away.
“Forget it. I do not have time to instruct you over why that time has passed. Where is my apprentice?”
[R'Lamiza]
Lami thumbed towards the main camp.”The main camp last I saw her. Doing her thing in the medical bay.”
[Eligor]
“That was where the fool was left. Which does remind me of more pressing business.”
He turns back around, placing his hand on the hilt of his black sword.
“Why are you not protecting her? I was given to believe you are her teacher.”
“Are you teaching her how to die?”
[R'Lamiza]
Lami rubbed the back of her head for abit. ”She’s stuck at camp for the time being. Surrounded by soldiers of this mudpit. So I took the liberty of the moment and decided to see if I couldn’t learn something useful. Turns out that was a waste of time. In more ways then one.”
[Eligor]
“As long as you bear that weapon inside you, you are expected to protect what is yours. Including your charges.”
“Ah. Right. Comfort.”
He gives an unhappy grunt.
“I suppose choosing to run rather than crush them all and risk injury could be seen as a kind of talent. You could have been captured. Not really, but you did not know I was there.”
“So keep yourself motivated.”
[R'Lamiza]
“Aye. I’ll do my part. Won’t leave her side. I honestly wasn’t expecting them to be as prepared as they are…lessons learned and all that… I won’t disappoint you again. Next time I’ll be sure to show them what I’m capable off…and always. I do want to be useful. Even if I have an odd way of showing it, are you heading back to the main encampment then?”
[Eligor]
“No.”
He gives a strange smile. Lami might have noticed that his hair was stained a deeper shade of red in places.
“I’ll keep looking for my foolish little apprentice. She requires instruction. Direction.”
[R'Lamiza]
Lami just nodded.”Right. Well best of luck with that….I’m going to be in hiding till my ship and alibi are back. Next time I meet that man. Will be the last… that is unless you killed him… and honestly by the looks of you. That might be the case. Either way, I’m going to make sure she doesn’t find herself in anymore trouble.”
“Though before you go…Mind me asking a question?”
[Eligor]
“What is it?”
[R'Lamiza]
“That man… looked eerily similar to Gair, is that just a coincidence or is there more going on here then I know?”
[Eligor]
“Did he now? I suppose they ended up making more than one….interesting.”
He brings his gaze back to Lami.
“I’ve no clue how much you know, so I’ll assume more than you know.”
“As for this challenger of yours…I’ve no intention to touch them. After I discipline my little fool I’ll be leaving this place. It’s bad for my….urges.”
“Once given instruction, staying to stifle them is only a hindrance to growth. As long as you can reliably pull them back from the worst of their mistakes your hand need not be visible.”
[R'Lamiza]
Lami nodded. “Good. I can make up for the error of letting him live…” she gave the lalafell an odd look quickly after though. “Made more? Ya I havnt the faintest of what that means. Long as I don’t have to deal with no clone Lucatiel’s riding man eating carbuncles I’ll be all set… but is there anyone else from that particular group I should be ready to cut down? Cause I doubt she will have the will too if she comes face to face with someone wearing her friends face… or her lovers even…”
[Eligor]
“I doubt it.”
“It’s a battlefield. Enjoy it.”
“Once everything is resolved, finding such an easy means to partake in this…sweet delicacy will be much harder.”
[R'Lamiza]
Lami nodded. “Noted. I’ll be sure to take my fill of it then. I won’t keep you any longer. Happy hunting.” She said simply before turning to head back to camp and Blue. Now taking this while protecting Blue part far more seriously then she had previously
[Eligor]
Eligor departs soon after, disappearing into night skirmishes.
[R'Lamiza]
Lami finds her way back to the main camp, kicking herself for not just going about her usual style of attack first question later. She hadn’t seen Eligor in action and she missed her chance too, finding a nice dark corner to hide in till her ship return and her along with it.
