Next Door Neighbors - 08/19/20
[Blue]
Deep in the Shroud, yet surprisingly close to a certain pair's ramshackle cabin, a large building stands tall, veiled by thick trees and dark brush. A plan had just been hatched in the reddest of rooms, but it was late, and the time to head home was nigh. |
The wooden door swings behind the blue-haired pair. Blue releases her hand from Tretesta's arm and swings around to look at the large building. She begins to walk backwards, tone cheerful as she addresses her partner, “Still can't believe we never noticed this place before…nor that it would be fulla sneaky killer type people!”
[Tretesta]
“Well, as we learned from that… Dotharl I suppose she was? Seems there's quite a few folks taking up residence in these deep woods.” Tret forged ahead, setting the track through the thick underbrush away from The Den towards their own home “This whole thing, watch your head here, became much larger than I was expecting. But Cass seems to also have bigger goals than Shirley does. He has more people to work with, though”
Tretesta led them deeper and deeper into the Shroud, pausing and crouching down once they had traveled for some time. He was quiet for a few moments, listening around them, before he spoke up again “I know you were gung ho about this in there, and you've had some luck with your ventures into Gridania… But this is going to be different than anything I think I've seen or heard you do before, Blue. This is going to be rather gruesome, I believe.”
[Blue]
Blue weaves between the trees, laughing softly to herself.* “All the merrier! It's nice to make new friends!” *She ducks underneath the branches at Tret's comment and nods. “Definitely bigger than I imagined as well, with so many parts involved..”
She follows her mate in relative silence as well, thoughts flitting from conversational bits and pieces she'd been a part of to the qualities of well, the folks the pair would be working with, stirred suddenly by the Hyur's voice. Her smile faltered.
“I…know. I don't really wanna ruin the shoe man. Or even have him eat his own shoes! And I don't really wanna kill anybody either- luckily I didn't get put into *that* team.”
She paused in her steps and brings a hand to her chest. “Everyone in there seemed rather quick to make killing the ultimate solution. I just wanna sneak around and cause some mischief. Even you,” She flicked a fin* “- didn't seem too surprised about the probability, though at least you tried to reason with that toothy lizard.”
[Tretesta]
“There's certainly an amount of savagery among the bunch. Believe the appropriate term is 'murder hobo'. This is beyond mischief though, dear. But this is also where money is made.” He stands slowly and turns to face Blue, offering a hand to pull her in close “I'm not surprised by much anymore dear. As soon as we had two tiny lizards both calling for blood, I figured it was going to be messy…” He paused as a thought crossed his mind “May need to talk with Harlan about that. Something still isn't sitting right with me. Killing every guard just to do it still seems needless and dangerous.”
[Blue]
Blue takes Tret's hand, propping herself up on her toes to kiss his cheek. When the danger lizards are mentioned, the Au Ri furrows her brow. “They're too serious and bloodlusty. Not sure I'll be able to get along with them like I do Veldi.”
She rolled her eyes. “And that Dotharl! I didn't need to see her expression to know how she considered me! Jokes on you, I'm no Xaela at all! I dun need no tribe or need to prove myself to you!” The woman was practically barking as she went off on her own tangent, tail swinging around aggressively. If she had fur, which she did not, it would be quite bristley.
It takes a moment or two but Blue finally takes the time to properly reply to her partner, reaching up and squeezing at his shoulder. “Glad there's at least some voice of reason within the group. Gonna need more of that if this first job is just a trial of what we are to expect.”
[Tretesta]
Tret chuckled at her outrage and shook his head. “She looked completely confused when you told her Blue Tribe, dear…” He then sighed and looked out among the dense forest, then lead then both further in, back on track for home “You know me, dear. Just trying to keep alive. Hard to do when you have a hundred men piling out if a house to kill you and your buddies. Someone is bound to get a lucky, or unlucky, shot in. But He seems to not want to lose anyone either, despite the plan. If we don't like how this ends up, we just step back from the table. We can be useful in other ways, sorta like that information cat that came in. Pay might not be as good, but I'll take a lighter wallet if it means keeping my head.”
[Blue]
Blue seems to have regained her composure, though she brings her tail to her hands, kneading at the scales with her fingertips distractedly as she follows after the Hyur.
“Yes, it's always an option to step away if it's too much..” Her voice drifts off and the woman finds herself pausing after a thought occurs, earfins perking. “I guess we should be keeping this business to ourselves then? I dun think any of our friends have turned to thievery to make ends meet, especially not if it involves..” She winces briefly, but doesn't continue the sentence.
[Tretesta]
“You know? Our friends have enough issues to deal with. 'Rina might be interested in throwing in if we told her… But the others might worry for us. Couldn't have them worrying for our sake, neh? So I suppose we can keep this to ourselves.” He looked over his shoulder and smiled back at her “If it comes down to it, we would be far from the first in that got their hands a little dirty. Don't forget that Luna and Gair are both career military. Oh hey, wire. Watch that branch.” He pointed downwards with one hand, moving a bit of obscuring foliage for Blue's benefit with the other. “You really wanted to pet that falcon back there, huh?”
[Blue]
Blue nodded slowly. “I suppose you're right…it'll be a secret then for nows!” She claps her hands together and hops about, just narrowly avoid the wire that her husband had clearly indicated. Without a glance back at the danger line, the woman instead reminisces on the falcon, giggling to herself. “Pet, cuddle, and possibly chase!” She stuck her tongue out at the Hyur. “Don't think the Dotharl woulda been happy though.”
Blue perks up upon seeing what looks like the cabin off in the near distance, but instead of running towards it, she falls back to Tretesta's side, coy smile on her face. “In spite of the danger…I still find myself excited. I feel like I can be useful! That's all I ever want! I've been working so hard to get stronger and get faster and get sneakier. Finally there's a test up ahead of me, and I think I can do it.”
[Tretesta]
Tret pulls Blue in Close as they cross the last bit of trespasser deterrents towards their home, leaning over to kiss the top of her head “You'll do great dear. Just focus on the task and not being seen. I'll be doing my best to make sure all eyes are on me while thats going on. Navi should take care of you…” As they stepped into the small clearing around their home, he looked down at her “I'll go chat with Harlan tomorrow. Put us at a little ease maybe. At least try and shake this iffy feeling…”
[Blue]
Blue wriggles pleasantly against the Hyur as he kisses her, parting from him as the sensation of sleep began to drift further and further into her mind. She'd tug at his wrist and lead him to the door while listening to his words, nodding softly. “Another chat with him wouldn't be the worst idea…the more we know about what we're getting into the better. But at least I'm getting into it with you!” She slips inside the cabin, ready for a restful night's sleep.
