[Eligor]

Eligor fades into form out of the aether, the black smoke settling and reabsorbing into him as he settles himself outside of A’erina’s home. He looks fairly out of place in the heat of Thanalan wearing his white coat and visor that looks suspiciously like a blindfold, but he does not seem to be particularly bothered as he cracks his knuckles and begins banging on the owner’s door repeatedly and quickly. Not to mention his speed, even the noise was enough to make one believe he were trying to break the door down rather than announce his presence, stopping short of damaging the material of the door frame.

[A'erina]

“Alright, this should be enough for now. It's clean and tidy” A'erina told herself as she dusted her hands off from twelve knows what. she threw a dirty rag onto the counter and admired what she had accomplished. Not bad, all things considered, plus it meant she could get some work done while she couldn't, so having an apprentice might not be That bad at all.

That's when the knocking on the door happened. It was loud, fast and absolutely rude. She feared for the integrity of the door, it served it's purpose in deterring people away, especially those with azure hair.

“Alright…” more knocks. “ ALRIGHT! I'M COMIN'!

She swung the door open as fast as she could, almost ready to swing for whoever was on the other side of it. She snarled a bit before looking down to see her favourite of the small folk, Eligor, at her doorstep.

“Oh, it's you. It's a bit unlike you to come visit me, must be a special occasion, huh?”

She peeked her head around the door whilst she was mid-sentence, looking to see if any damage had been done to her doors.

[Eligor]

Remarkably, the door was undamaged. Perhaps he had experience as a debt collector.

“I suppose so. I’ve learned you are with child, and you did not seem to come tell me. So I came to see you instead.”

[A'erina]

“How thoughtful of you.” She rolled her eyes. ” I figured that'd be best left to F'loki to come sort it all out with you. Not that I'm tryin' to avoid you or anythin'. Just gotta spend all this time doin' prep work, you know? Gettin' it all ready for the baby, makin' sure I'm not losin' my fuckin' mind, all that kinda shit. I would have visited eventually, I'm sure you don't need to be pestered by someone like me, especially with a screamin' baby.“

[Eligor]

“Someone like you.”

He pauses, turning his head to the side.

“You told me to call you Erina, did you not? I was under the impression we were friends. Did you imagine I really thought of you as something else?”

[A'erina]

“I did… An' we are friends.” she rubbed her nose a little ” …An' you know I've always thought that.“

[Eligor]

“And that translated to me…what? Laughing and conspiring to steal your infant? I just want to help us all be certain there will be no issues. Will you trust that?”

[A'erina]

“That's not exactly what I want to hear. You come to visit and then say you want to be sure there are no issues means that you're expectin' there to be some.”

[Eligor]

“I’m always expecting issues, moreso when it comes to individuals I have changed personally. But you have your own issues. Did you resolve them? Can YOU be sure there should not be any issues?”

[A'erina]

Rather confidently. ” Yup. On my side, anyway. That's why I had him come talk to you so we could get an understanding if somethin' were to happen.“

[Eligor]

“The problem is you, not the child. It could have an effect on your body. What is your condition usually of late?”

[A'erina]

“Why does it matter, It's been perfectly fine. Couple of nightmares and sleepless nights but other than that I've been relatively okay.”

[Eligor]

“It matters because I do not want you to get hurt because of me, or because I did not do something. Is that simple enough to understand?”

[A'erina]

“Why would I get hurt? I can be cautious… Sometimes. I think you're worryin' about the wrong person.”

[Eligor]

“Is someone else pregnant with a child of a man I’ve enhanced for battle and survival?”

[A'erina]

“Not to my knowledge… Enhanced how? I don't think he could battle his way out of a paper bag. ”

[Eligor]

He tilts his head, frowning.

“He really has not told you?”

[A'erina]

“Surprisingly not. He sometimes skips out on small details. I don't bother him about it because it's usually not important.”

[Eligor]

Eligor takes a deep breath and sighs before placing his arms behind his back.

“The next thing then. I want your help. It will be a job offer of sorts.”

[A'erina]

Her ears twitched. “A job offer? I'm listening.”

[Eligor]

He nodded.

“I am….exceedingly proficient at making tools of war. Part of the reason why is due to my failure to perform when learning from the fane. But therein lies the problem. Eorzea—and arguably the world—relies far too much on casting to administer treatment in wartime conditions. On the battlefield, an effective healer is not only valuable beyond that of an entire squad, they are also firmly in the minority. But what if it could be changed? I want to create an alternative. Namely, I want to take the need for a caster out of the picture.”

He clicks his teeth, considering his words before continuing.

“I want to create portable healing spells. We can create scripts already—and some mages utilize tattoos to make up for a lack of ability or such. We also know that implanting crystals in flesh can allow anyone—even those without the ability—to use magic, though there is risk.”

“What I propose is that we create a synthetic crystal not unlike a soul stone, and imbue it with a natural inclination towards healing. Done correctly, no medic will need face overt risk and importance on the battlefield. Lives can be saved at a moments notice.”

[A'erina]

A'erina listened intently, her ears flicking with each sentence. She was confused but at the same time somewhat intrigued. Once she had finished, leaving the door open for him, she paced backwards and forwards in the main room of her house. She folded her arms, tapped her chin, scratched her head… All whilst in seemingly deep thought, eventually breaking her silence.

“Not exactly my area of expertise, and my mind's jumbled up as of late. What you're askin' for… You want to… 'Make' crystals that act the same as genuine ones, but can be used for healin' purposes.”

Being somewhat carefree, A'erina often left alchemical things lying around in places that she would often poke and prod and have under a watchful eye as she ate and such. One such thing was a single Lightning Crystal that was sat on her table near the kitchen. she picked it up and held it upto the sunlight pouring into the hosue through the open door.

“This might be a bit beyond my understandin' but… Almost everyone has some elemental affinity, yeah?” She had to think of someone she knew…” “ Ah! Like Novine, for example! She's more Lightnin', or Levin aspected right? What if we were to imbue this crystal with healin' properties by using the elemental juice inside but not removin' it completely. Usin' the element, in this case, Levin, It could only essentially work on someone with that Lightnin' aspect. I'm not sayin' it would work for others of different aspects an' the like but I have to start somewhere.”

[Eligor]

“It’s certainly something to consider…”

He stepped inside.

“But that would make every unit personalized. That defeats the purpose somewhat if it cannot be used universally no? For example, what if this levin healing is applied to someone not close enough—or theoretically—repellant to such an application of healing? As you said already it’s not perfect but it also has potential to harm in this vein. In the heat of battle the common footman will be too excited to check or remember. That would then necessitate the creation of aspected units to circumvent the problem—it spirals from there.”

[A'erina]

“As I said, it's somewhere to start from. I'm sure with enough time I could perfect it. It'd take lots of testin' and even then, say I were to manage to make elemental crystals able to harness some healin' for use in whatever battles you got your people goin' into all 'excited' and shit… It's gonna take even longer to make it more unive– Wait a minute…”

A'erina dissapeared downstairs, little regard to the fact she was near enough 6 and a half moons pregnant as she seemed to move down them with no care at all rather briskly. Upstairs, Eligor would have heard clattering of bottles, moving of wooden steps and papers flying around…. After all, she's only self-proclaims to be a Master Alchemist. She returns a few moments later holding another crystal, holding it out to him.

“I thought I had one lying around. This is a crystal without any element attached to it. It's dull, you can see that from it's greyish white appearance. I've never used one for anythin' before because the bloke I got it from said a handful ended up in a crate and he couldn't get rid of them. So I took them off his hands thinkin' I could do somethin' with them, been on a shelf for awhile but if it still has magical properties in, even if it's a single use thing… Surely that'd be useful to you, right?”

[Eligor]

“Unaspected crystals…that is something to consider….which brings me to the rest of my offer, if you will hear it.”

[A'erina]

She tossed the unaspected crystal onto the table and leaned against it. “ There's more?”

[Eligor]

“Of course. I would not expect you to devote all of your time to this given your…condition and other work. I’m also aware that the father of your child is trying to set up a new work schedule so everyone has ample down time. I would propose you come in at your leisure. Seeing as this research would take much trial, error, and improvement, it would be a long standing contract. I suppose….you could come in with him if you’d like”

“And I’m not sending anyone into any wars, to be clear. I just want to stop people getting killed where I can.”

[A'erina]

“I would hope nobody would be that daft as to send me somewhere like that in the first place… I don't think I can use her even if I tried to right now. But you know he probably won't like it that you even showed up here in the first place, let alone me tellin' him 'I got an offer from Eligor' and then he comes marchin' upto your place wantin' to bop you and then he gets hurt and you probably don't get hurt and it's just unecessary bullshit that none of us really need.”

[Eligor]

“He doesn’t like anything I do. Doesn’t stop me from being right, nor does it stop my actions from being to his benefit. Why do you think I’m going to hurt him?”

[A'erina]

“The way I see it, is you're some kind of scientist, and when the rats start to deviate from their given path that's been laid out for them, they get punished. Am I wrong?”

[Eligor]

“If that were the case…”

He smiles.

“Would you not be that deviation? I have his family in my hand. If I wanted to, I could punish him any time I choose. Why wait until now?”

[A'erina]

“Because one of your experiments defied odds and put us both in this situation. An' I know you're not that much of a monster that you'd do it now. Doesn't mean he won't come after you though, I have told him to stop but, as some animals are wont to do, they won't listen all the time and will do whatever they please if they feel the need for it. All I'm sayin' is… Just don't hurt him too bad, alright? I actually like him bein' around.”

[Eligor]

“I have no intention of hurting anyone. I can run away well enough. More importantly, you are interested in my offer?”

[A'erina]

“Of course I'm interested. I'm fairly confident in my abilities that I can do it.”

[Eligor]

“Then let’s do it. It’ll be fun.”

[A'erina]

A'erina nods. “It won't be particularly fun, but I'll humour you with it, and I don't need payin' for it, 'cause, you know, friends.”

[Eligor]

“I doubt Novine would see it that way. Might as well take payment where you can. Or refuse to her face, I do not mind either way. When can you start?”

[A'erina]

“I have one or two of these extra crystals lyin' around, I'm gonna need more because a handful won't be enough considering this is trial and error. So if you could be a darlin' and bring me… Lots more, then I'd be grateful enough. I have nothin' else goin' on right now but it's not goin' to be done in a few minutes, this could take days, or even weeks. Just gonna have to be patient while I mess around with it.”

[Eligor]

“Mhm.”

He turns around.

“I had this whole plan to take you out for fun but really I have no other reason to keep your attention. I’ll see you soon.”

[A'erina]

“ …Fun? And here was me thinkin' this was just business. Are you sure you've got the right person?”

[Eligor]

“Fun and work need not be separate. I was going to take you to Costa Del Sol. Have you do some exercises in the water. Maybe relax in the sun and speak of research. But there is no need for it now.”

[A'erina]

“Aww, so you do care… Shame though, you can leave now, and I'll get started on this as soon as I can.”

[Eligor]

“Actually come into the lab when you do. No point if you just try to do everything by yourself.”

[A'erina]

“Why, because I won't be makin' it fast enough? I don't think I fancy having your lot breathin' down my neck when I'm tryin' to work. You want me to work at your place, where I will have to keep askin' for things? Come on, Eligor, I thought you were bein' serious when you came to me and asked me for some help… If you wanted it done by your eggheads you would have just asked them in the first place.”

[Eligor]

“If you had listened to everything that I've been saying this would hardly be a surprise at all. As for your assumptions, we can sit around all day with me correcting them or you can just come see that you are wrong easily enough yourself. The latter seems faster to me.”

[A'erina]

“A chance to work with you, huh? You're spoilin' me now. I'll be there bright and early in a few days, deal?”

[Eligor]

“If you say so.”

He turns around and begins walking away before stopping.

“Ah….and is there someone new around you?”

[A'erina]

“Not to my knowledge.”

[Eligor]

“Alright then.”

He leaves the lawn without another word and walks around a nearby house leading towards the center of the Goblet.
