02/22/21 - Sunburned and Alive

Note: Haimus is played by Astra, Cry Crewmates are played by R'Lamiza

[Haimus]

It was just another day in Limsa, the sun beating down, and the warm salty air lashing it victims. The market busied as peddler and customers came and went.

A young man carried a sack of product from a farmer in area down to the docks, and then back up for another. The common street rats running about snatching items from the unsuspecting, and playing as they got away. The young man watched and chuckled, he sat on a short break, taking a drink from his water sack.

The young man in question would be as of looking at a ghost…

Haimus would appear different to Lucatiel and Tretesta. He was more leaner, and sunkissed at this point.

[Tretesta]

“Damn it all to hell it's hot out today… Days like this where I'm pissed I can't use the crystals…” Stepping off the ferry, Tret turned to offer Luca a hand off the boat coming in from the Mists. After the showing the night before and word that there would be changes to the H from H, Tret decided to hang around Vrylbrand an extra day and help stock up the pantry for new meals to be created and served.

[Lucatiel]

“Whaaaat!? You can't teleport? At all? Even Luna can a little bit. How come?” She smiles at the offered hand, stepping off the boat. She had her Carbuncle-shaped handbag with her to help carry some smaller supplies, as well as her actual real Carbuncle. She bent over to pick it up from the boat, setting it down next to her before looking at Tret curiously again.

[Tretesta]

“That's a very good question! Just can't. But I can be taken for a ride, like you saw. Alright, where… Are… This way.” Tret gestured with a flat hand along the docks towards the winding twisty path up from the lower lower deck.to the middle lower deck. At least there was some shade given on the way….

[Lucatiel]

Lucatiel follows without question, smiling wide and taking in the briny air with great joy. “Buuuut… I dooon't get iiiit! Fiiiine! You're weird!” She practically bounces in her walk with a cheerful hum, breathing in the air for a moment and letting in a sound of joy.

[Haimus]

Haimus collected another round of farmers good from the vendors, then made his way back down to the docks. A pep in his step and a hum on the tongue. His heavy steps passed Luca and Tret. “'cuse me.”

[Tretesta]

“Oh, Sorry, Excuse us” Instinctively, Tret pulls Luca to the side of the pier and out of the way of the worker, allowing him to pass before continuing on. Then he stops dead, blood running cold, hand going to his hip. He looks over his shoulder, then turns fully, Looking at the back of a dead man. A dead man who was remarkable spry and in shape for the task he was doing.

[Lucatiel]

“Whoa!” There comes a tiny yelp of surprise from Lucatiel as she is pulled to the side, her whole body leaning to stabilize. “Sorry! I didn't – Huh?” Her eyes fall on the man as he passes by, a look of shock on her face. “You look a lot like a guy we were with a while ago!”

[Haimus]

“Can't say I eva met you folks before” He dropped the grain sack, then wiping his brow. His accent and voice were identical. “Ya'll staring at me as if you seen a ghost.”

[Tretesta]

Not a ghost… Tret remains tense, eyes darting up and down the man to make sure he was seeing what he was seeing. The build was… not quite right. Something was certainly off. But that was Haimus. He reaches out to take Luca's arm and squeezes softly, pulling her closer to him “Forgive us… Yes… You look like someone who was with us not long ago. Hard to lose a friend.”

[Lucatiel]

The girl stumbles a bit as she's pulled closer, but is mostly oblivious. “Huh… Maybe he was your twin brother! His name was Haimus! Do you have a brother with that name? You're sooo close to what he looked like, but umm… You can't be!”

[Haimus]

With a bright smile and thumb to his chest, “That's my name! Haimus! I don't have a brother, grew up in and out of the orphanage in Ul'dah.”

[Lucatiel]

The girl looks shocked, a smile crossing her face after a moment. “Wow! Two people named Haimus! That's so weird!”

[Haimus]

He scratched the back of his head, “I doubt they would be two of me.”

[Tretesta]

The blue Hyur could only look between the two. Dear god it IS him. He gave Luca's arm a squeeze and gently pulled her away “Small world, perhaps. Sorry to have troubled you, we won't hold you up. Come, Luca… now.”

[Lucatiel]

“Huh? Wait, but…” The girl is very easily pulled, looking at Tret for a moment as she stumbles. She turns back around and waves at Haimus cheerfully. “Bye other Haimus! It was nice meeting you!”

[Haimus]

The young man smiled and picked up the sack. His smile was a bit different, a tooth was capped in a gold. “See ya around.”

[Tretesta]

Rather than head up the path towards the mid level, Tret led Luca into the Fisher's guild, guiding her around to keep some of the days catch between them and the man on the docks. Wouldnt do to stare at the once dead man out in the open. “…Luca, that's him. I don't know how… or why… But that is Haimus.”

[Lucatiel]

Luca follows faithfully, easily led. As Tret tells her about the dead man walking, she blinks. “What? But he died! You umm… You killed him.” She looks considerably less cheerful as she recalls. “But that's…. He got out? How come he doesn't remember us?”

[Tretesta]

“I did. And I don't know. I really don't know…” He takes a moment to look down to his hand, then back up to the specter on the docks “…He hurt Astra. I hit him. I gave him my staff at one point. It doesn't make sense. Both are as real as I could think… Look at him out there! we were on the boat with those bags…”

[Lucatiel]

The girl awkwardly stares off at Haimus from where they are, just watching him. “That's really weird! He said mean things about me and he doesn't even remember! I'm so confused!”

[Haimus]

was getting a smaller ship ready. A loud group of laugher happened as someone fell into the water. The yanked the greeny up, and laughed more.||

This was all in sight of Tret and Luca
The young lad laughed, and the returned the path to collect sacks from market.

Haimus looked over toward where he thought someone was watching him, then shaking his head. “Just a feeling, right get back to this, and then some drinks at the wench!”

[Lucatiel]

Lucatiel once more happily waves at Haimus from across the docks as the man glances over at them.

[Cry Crew]

A burly roegayden man stood on the top deck. Watching the greenhorn fall off he’d start to bark as the laughter died down.

“OI! Quiet horsin’ ‘round! I got word this mornin’ Captain Swiftfoot’s on her way back. And if we don’t get this shipment to Gyr Abania and back before she makes port I’m gonna get me ass chewed. And if I get me ass chewed I’m going to chew you lot up and spit ya over board. Got it? BACK TO IT.”

This man pointed at Haimus.

“You like being out worked by a green horn? Maybe I’ll call you the green band. I’m sure captain will love to hear she pays for such a quality crew.”

Stomping off the ship to join Haimus in collecting their cargo from the Markets. The crew members that had been horsing about quickly went about their own respective tasks.

[Haimus]

“Yes sir! Right away sir!”he muttered to himself,“I don't wish to be a green band.”

Haimus looked over his shoulder back to the fisher's guild, before turning his head back to the Roegayden, “Some folks said they knew me. You think it got anything to do with that lady that sent me here for Captain Swiftfoot? I know none of the men know the fortune teller, but she got me on a good foot. I… I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for her.” He looked down as he kept walking. “I have a roof, food in my belly, and pay.”

[Tretesta]

Tret could only watch for a bit and shake his head. No way was this a mass hallucination. Or could It be? “….Maybe… He wasn't actually with us in the ruin. He didn't hit you. Or Rina. Only Astra. and we know she was being possessed… Maybe Tyche was already in our heads too… But how… We saw him at Astras…”

[Lucatiel]

The girl nods. “Yeah, I remember! Maybe he ummm…. Maybe he… I've got nothing…” She sighs, defeated.

[Tretesta]

“…I wonder if we ever left home that day, now. Strange… Has me questioning my own sanity now. Wonderful. Blessing… She'll need to prove herself. But like I said last night, we should talk about that soon. Lets get this shopping list taken care of, neh? Get back to the Hearth, make a snack, and talk about our… gifts.”

[Cry Crew]

The roe looked down at Haimus.

“Lad. Your asking the wrong man…. just do your job and worry about wondering eyes after the captain has approved of me hiring you.”

Taking another sack and hustling back to the ship

[Lucatiel]

Luca looks at Tret for a moment. “I know we left! Luna made sandwiches, then I went to Astra's house, then we went to that desert, and I got bruises and had a horrible nightmare! It definitely happened!” She nods, as if affirming to herself as much as to Tret. “Yea! So many Ishgardian dishes she wants to make… We don't have to go there do we?” Her expression turns worried, the thought of the cold almost making her shiver already.

[Tretesta]

“The Bismarck should have about everything we need, no worries. Anything specialty she can go get herself. We're looking for basics today, stuff we'll use plenty of.” Waiting another few moments, Tret decides against getting Fish while they were there, knowing that was better picked up the day of, and leads Luca out and up the winding path towards the main strip.

[Lucatiel]

She breathes an exaggerated sigh of relief and takes their list out of her handbag. As they walk towards the strip, the girl's Carbuncle bounds after them, trailing slightly. “Okay umm….. Tomatoes! Eggs! Umm, milk! Lessee….” She seems quite happy to read off the list as if commanding the man, walking with him with her face buried in the list.

[Tretesta]

“Garlic, onions, salt, pepper, flour, bread, yeah yeah yeah. I've run a kitchen before Luca. No worries. We'll get everything on there and maybe a little extra in case I come out to help again.” Tret chances a look over his shoulder at the men loading cargo, shakes his head, and the two disappear into the covered walkway

[Haimus]

Haimus nodded, and busied himself, but continously checked over his shoulder, looking for the pair as they traversed the city. He had questions now.

[Lucatiel]

“Whaaaat, you have!? With Blue!? Oh that's so cool!” As ever, she's ready to enthuse and be amazed by what should be relatively simple and unimpressive, barely paying attention to where she's walking at the moment.

[Tretesta]

“Well… Not with Blue. I tend to do all of the kitchen work….” Tret moved to walk in front of Luca to try and keep her from running into anything and give her something to follow in her periphery. Up a few hills, a couple twists, and then skirting the ever busy edges of the bustling Plaza, they would wind up at the Culinarian's guild, where Tret immediately made friendly with familiar faces

[Lucatiel]

Eager to help but a bit like a kid with their parent at the grocery store, she sticks to smiling at people while looking at her list. She falls into her own world in her head, imagining herself running an eatery as a renowned cook. The thought occupies her fully as she spaces out, smiling wide to herself.

[Tretesta]

after roughly a bell of negotiation and selection, Tret and Luca came away from the Bismarck with their bags loaded with all manner of food and spice. As they started down the walkway, Tret slowed and looked out into the horizon. Maybe I should send her home immediately… He might still be down there. With a soft sigh, he shook his head and resumed his earlier pace, adjusting the bag on his shoulder. She would just say shes happy to keep walking. No point. “Alrighty, Lets get back to your place. I've got work to do today back on the main land!”

[Haimus]

Haimus had wrapper up his work, as he took his now near empty water sack, and small amount of pay, began to make his way up to the drowned wench.

As he walked across and away from the docks, he spotted the unusual pair, and waved at them.

[Lucatiel]

Lucatiel is waddling somewhat now to offset the weight in her handbag, though it doesn't stop her smile or enthusiasm. She does, however, balk at the idea of going home already. “Awww! But we've barely been out! I wanna see what work you're doing! Oh… But I guess I should get this stuff home into the ice box….” Her gaze glances down at her bag for a moment, thinking. As she looks back up, she notices the wave and happily returns it with gusto.

[Haimus]

The young man ran up to the two, “Do glad I saw you two again! I.. um, I have a question.”

[Lucatiel]

The girl smiles at the man, looking eager to answer. “Go ahead!”

[Haimus]

He looked at the items they were carrying, “Did ye need a hand with that? And that not my question!” He chuckled “Earlier ye both seem to recognize me, or even know me… how do ye all figure? How did ye come to know me?”

[Lucatiel]

She shakes her head. “Nope! We've got it! Oh, but umm…. Well…” Her eyes glance over at Tret for a moment before she basically blabs. “You went with us to a temple with this woman named Astra, and umm… When we were deep inside you attacked us and Tretty here umm…” Her words peter out a bit, even someone like her understanding how bad this sounded, “killed you…”

[Tretesta]

Tret could only watch with dread as the spectre came towards them. Well, too late to send Luca away. Before he could try and brush the man off, Luca told a fantastical story. He now just turned to look at the top of her head, then looked up to Haimus. With a shrug, he offered “Apparently I didn't do such a good job of it.”

[Haimus]

He scratched his head, “Astra, a Viera fortune teller? I ain't been to no temple, but I know of an Astra.”

[Tretesta]

“…Really now.” Stranger and stranger Tret raised a brow and gestured at the man to continue “Well? What do you know about her?”

[Haimus]

His face went a bit white “…I died?” He started hyperventilating.

[Tretesta]

Tret shakes his head, gesturing again “Obviously not, friend! I've never seen a dead man haul as much as you look like you have been. Must've just been a light scratch. Astra. Fortune teller. Rabbit. Go.”

[Lucatiel]

Lucatiel looks a bit concerned, instinctively putting her hands out to gently grab the man's arms. “No nonononono it's okay! Obviously you didn't! You're right here!”

[Haimus]

Gripping his kneels, now sweaty, and panicked.“I'm alive, right. I'm here.” He took a deep breath. “So she posted those flyer around, looking for help. I went, she had the position filled, but we talked. She…. I think she drugged me? I woke up, she had taken my tooth,” He popped the chunk of gold that replaced the missing tooth out showed them. “She gave me instructions on how to find someone she knew, Captain Swiftfoot, of Cry of Murderers. Sent me on my way to get me on my feet. Such an odd turn of events. But I'm here, I am greenhorn now, I have means for my future.”

Nervously laughed, “I guess I kinda owe her.”

[Lucatiel]

There is a pause as Lucatiel looks positively worried. “SHE DRUGGED YOU!?”

[Haimus]

He nodded, “Weird! But she helped me?”

[Lucatiel]

“But she took your tooth! And then you ended up in the temple and… but…” She looks flustered and confused. “You talked to me there even! And then when you attacked you called me a tease or something! I don't get it!”

[Tretesta]

“drugged… your tooth…” Tret went deep in the tank on this bit of knowledge, rubbing at his chin. Some kind…. of witchcraft? A golem? What was with them in those rui- “Wait, I'm sorry. Cry? Swiftfoot? Lamiza Swiftfoot?”

[Lucatiel]

Lucatiel just looks between Tret and Haimus, too confused to even comment further.

[Haimus]

“Yeah, she sent me to look for Captain R'Lamiza Swiftfoot”

[Tretesta]

“… You have been loading Lamiza's Cry?”

[Haimus]

“I've been working with Cry dock crew on her second smaller ship, she away, and they still have work.”

“Been about a moon now?”

[Lucatiel]

The girl hangs her head, sighing. “I know Lami at least! So that's something! So you really don't remember the temple at all?”

[Tretesta]

Tret nearly sat down his pack, full intent on rushing back down to the lower lower docks to figure out where Blue was. Then Haimus mentioned smaller ship. “Second? Second ship? GOD DAMN IT!” After this outburst, the blue man took a breath and a moment, then smiled again “Wonderful! So glad that worked out for you. Luca, We obviously have him mistaken. How could we have killed him and left him in a temple? he's right here!”

[Lucatiel]

Lucatiel flinches as Tret shouts, looking up at him uneasily. “W-whuh?” She blinks. “But… But it's him! It's definitely him! He's a bit skinnier but it's him!”

[Haimus]

He looked at Lucatiel, “This is first time I met you, I never went to the temple. I have never seen you before…” He looked at Tret “The Cry is scheduled to return soon.”

[Lucatiel]

“But! But! Noooo I don't get it! You were there, I was there, I… I don't understand!” She pouts, defeated and confused. She sighs to herself and just goes silent.

[Tretesta]

Tret places a hand on Luca's shoulder and squeezes softly “Luca, I'm in the same boat. Lets let this man get about his day, we have a delivery to make. Sorry we didn't have more info for you, kid. Keep up the hard work. I know your captain. I'll tell her you're breaking your back with the rest of them, neh?”

[Lucatiel]

She just nods, hanging her head once more and looking at the ground. She re-adjusts the handbag and readies to keep walking.

[Haimus]

With a bright and golden tooth smile he nodded “Much appreciated sir! I… just hope she likes me enough to keep me around.” He kicked his foot against the ground/dock “I won't keep ye, I hope I answered the confusion ye may have had.” He stepped aside making passage.

[Lucatiel]

Luca lets out a half-hearted,“Not even slightly…”

[Tretesta]

Tret led Luca back down towards the ferry, looking over his shoulder here and there to make sure Haimus hadn't decided to stalk them and that no one else decided to come ask them questions. Only when he was sure they were away, Tret spoke in a low tone to Luca “Some kind of magic, Luca. Like a carbuncle… But shaped like Haimus… That has to be what happened. Come on, Lets get this food back to Luna, maybe we can talk a bit more. Perhaps with Rina too…”

[Lucatiel]

Luca follows diligently, though still thoroughly flummoxed. “But… I… So that wasn't really him in the temple? I… I guess that makes sense… O-okay. Yeah, maybe they'll know what to do…”

[Tretesta]

“Im going with my Carbuncle theory. There's a lot I don't understand about some magic. But hey! Turns out no one died on our adventure! We did better than I thought we did!”

[Lucatiel]

“I guess… But that means Astra is… not good. She hurt the real Haimus! And led us into that temple where we almost got really hurt! And the nightmare!”

[Haimus]

A familiar tingle shot up Tret's arm, a nudge of acknowledgment one would say.

[Tretesta]

Tret looks down at his hand and raises a brow. Oh, now you want to talk. He smiles to Luca and shrugs at her outburst “Remember, she was asleep for a good deal of that trip. I think the goddess did all of that. Astra didn't remember Haimus at all. Think she's a victim here as well…”

[Lucatiel]

Becoming visibly confused once more at the somewhat complex nature of everything, Lucatiel just frowns and pouts again. “So she's… not bad. It's that statue goddess that did it all! That's not nice!”

[Haimus]

Haimus walked away from the dock area, and made his way to the Wench for his dinner and drinks. Something tugging at his mind now.

Haimus found himself stirred away with memories of places he never seen, and the people he had met earlier the day before. He could not shake the feeling that what they said was true, but not.
