Pre 1.0 Super Summarized

General Fun Facts

The importance of titles: Powerful individuals within Eligor’s clan were always given their own individual titles as a show of reverence and respect (or fear). By the time Eligor was born, obtaining a title was synonymous with becoming a noble.

Catalyst Crystals: Crystals that manifest in the bodies of those descended from Eligor’s ancestors. It most prominently appears as a protrusion on the forehead (rarely elsewhere) but is actually present throughout the skeletal structure of those who have them. It allows the individual to manipulate and understand aether to a greater degree but doubles as a vulnerability. The crystals are sensitive, and as an extension of the soul damaging or breaking them can kill the individual.

Synthetic Catalyst Crystals: Not all descendants are born with a crystal, and have one transplanted into their body. This is a risky operation and the process links the crystal directly to the owner’s mind. Not as dangerous as a natural crystal if broken but as it is only the implant and not crystals throughout the body it is not as powerful either.

Attunement: Crystal holders all have a particular element that they specialize in naturally. This can be any element, but the most common forms of magic a crystal holder specializes in are: Ice, Lightning, and wind. It is possible to specialize in more than one element, but cases of it happening are extremely uncommon. Those with a specialized element can accidentally channel it when experiencing heightened emotions (I.E. blowing frost or accidentally discharging static).

Physical traits: The hair and eyes have a tendency to be some shade of blue or green. Sharp teeth are not uncommon, but are far more likely to appear in those with a catalyst crystal than those without.

Soul Weapons: Holders of a natural catalyst crystal eventually manifest a weapon that is an extension of themselves. There is no way to choose which the true form the weapon takes, but post manifestation manipulating the size and shape of the weapon becomes possible. Very few manage to do this due to difficulty. Manifestation of a soul weapon is what often leads to weapon specialization later.

Wraith transformation: Losing control of one’s emotions (particularly anger) can cause the body of a natural crystal holder to undergo rapid changes as their body works overtime channeling and processing aether. This is accompanied by a change in physical appearance and is often a death sentence if not stopped in time.

Mother Crystal: Not a reference to Hydaelyn, but to the giant progenitor crystal that is the figure of worship and seat of power for the clan.

Weapons: At some point external catalysts became somewhat redundant, so a larger focus was given to actually wielding weapons (especially those based on a soul weapon) with a catalyst attached mostly as a compliment or formality rather than an actual need. On the occasion that channeling through the body presents too much of a risk however, it also served as a somewhat useful alternative.

Crystal frequency: Having a natural catalyst crystal was generally uncommon, but was more common in women than men. Women were also generally better at utilizing magic than the male descendants were. This led to a more matriarchal society, as men with both a catalyst crystal and an abundance of talent were exceedingly rare.

Crystal Communication: Far be it from actual telepathy, those with catalyst crystals are more sensitive to the aetheric fluctuations of others, which allows them to both transmit and receive emotions. Those highly adept at this form of communication can even understand intent with enough practice.

Abigor surname: The Abigor is more of an honorary title than a last name. The Abigor is considered the chieftan and is not a name that is directly related to a particular bloodline. With that said, the offspring of an Abigor are all given the surname Abigor as well as a sign of respect (and also expectation). All Abigors are considered to be related to one another through a bond of strength even if there are no actual blood ties.

Pre-Eligor:

-A lost war with opposing clans leaves the (Eligor) clan very close to being wiped out. In a desperate bid for survival they force themselves to move into a harsh and unforgiving desert known for its particularly vicious and nightmarish monster inhabitants. They learn to survive by focusing on and improving their magic, and after managing to subjugate some Adamantoise slowly begin to replenish lost numbers.

-The clan is attacked again and forced to flee further into the desert, which in turn increases instances of monster attacks. Desperation returns.

-A mass of crystal crashes into the desert from space, and upon investigation the clan learns that the crystal can speak to them. It offers them great power but warns it will come with great cost. They ultimately accept and are bid to devour the crystal.

-Eating the crystal turns out to be a terrible idea, and many of the weaker clansmen die. Prompted to continue and driven by desperation they bet on the crystal and continue to devour it. Those who fall turn into a mass of crystals themselves and are devoured by those who survive.

-The gamble works. The survivors gain great power and are able to repel both the enemy clans and the powerful monsters. Due to the ravenous and vicious use of aether along with the terrifying glowing eyes, the clan is thought to have become demons. Peace returns, and the clan decides to remain in the desert.

-The most powerful amongst the clan is made into the leader and given the responsibility to protect everyone. Named the Abigor, a title that is later passed on.

-The clan begins to worship stars, hoping to gain more power.

-The first Abigor dies and turns into a massive crystal. All of the original clansmen who ate the space crystal eventually die and fuse with the selfsame crystal.

-1st century: the clan was considered to hold dominion over the dangerous region they inhabited and built a castle connected on the adamantoise as a show of strength. The clan was officially abolished and remade into a kingdom named Angra Mainyu.

-2nd century: Children with catalyst crystals begin to appear and are considered a blessing. Frequency of appearance and quality of power/control is higher in females than in men. The Angra Mainyu Castle is made larger and new materials are added.

-2nd-3rd century: A focus on technology and trading gains traction. Outsiders are eventually allowed to join the kingdom, as well as mix and breed with pureblood clansmen. During this period, the Castle is expanded once again but grows to heavy. Efforts to make the castle fly are started.

-4th century: An emphasis on rules and restrictions emerges. While well-meaning, the rules end up creating a higher emphasis on class separation and severe punishments. Within this time period an order is created to maintain rules and laws, which later becomes an automated magical monitoring system. Slavery is made possible. During this time, the knight system is established, allowing for more prestige for those with power, creating a greater emphasis on magical proficiency.

-6th century: Eligor’s mother is born as the second daughter of a low-class family.

-She grows upset with the unfair system and plots with her sister and childhood friend to become the Abigor and force change.

-She meets Eligor’s father.

-She manages to defeat the Abigor and become the new one, but learns about the restrictions in place as well as the presence within the crystal to which all the Abigors must remain attuned to. Manages to resist losing her mind.

Pre 1.0(Thronefall era):

-Eligor’s older sister is born, and due to a prophecy is considered to be some great heroic figure.

-Eligor is born exactly one year later and considered to be an omen of great disaster. Due to the death of the Abigor’s spouse along with most of the attending medical staff along with his extremely peculiar appearance, fear and panic quickly spread. Ultimately is tried and found guilty (despite being an infant) of murder and stripped of his honorary title and social standing. Is protected by an obscure ruling regarding infants which spares him the death penalty. He is given seals (the tattoos on his cheeks) to prevent him from being able to use magic and is assigned to the care of a low-class servant in the castle under watch by the guard. He is never educated, and so never learns to speak.

[Four years pass without incident]

-Through a chance encounter, Eligor encounters his aunt and sister. Intrigued by everyone being so fearful of him, his sister takes him on as a personal servant without knowing he is related to her.

-A prodigy with magic, she begins testing older magic formula on his body, ultimately stumbling upon a method to control the bodies of others. It ultimately fails.

-Eligor’s sister discovers that he can somewhat communicate through his crystal and a combination of singsong sounds and develops a method of speaking with him. Enjoying being the only one to do so, she does not teach him how to speak.

[Two years pass without incident]

-A bandit and a witch infiltrate the castle with an old map from a defector. It was meant to lead them to treasure, but instead lead to the children’s sleeping chambers. Eligor and his sister are abducted.

-Stupid rules prevent any rescue team being sent to retrieve the children.

-Eligor wakes up to an unfamiliar camp and his sister crying. Despite being tied up he lunges at the man he believes to be responsible and bites his forearm. Liking his bravery and noticing that no one seemed to be coming for them, he gives him an ultimatum (through his sister translating): Work for him and protect her or die.

-Losing her children is the final straw, and Eligor’s mother succumbs to stress. To prevent completely losing her mind, she puts herself in a semi-aware state in a last-ditch effort to hold on while her sister finds a solution to the crystal presence.

-Eligor is trained (mostly kicked around) how to fight by the bandit leader, and despite the very terrible circumstances leading to their capture, begins to grow close to the man in a twisted father-son relationship. Eligor’s sister very quickly becomes something of a bandit princess and is doted on by everyone.

[One year passes without incident]

-Eligor is taken on a village raid and taken to a specific house in the village that was home to a plainsfolk family. He is prompted to rape the lalafellin girl present but upon seeing her crying over her brother’s broken body is reminded of his sister and goes berserk, killing all of the bandits present. After, he both the sister and brother with him and claimed them as his slaves. The girl’s brother is saved, but loses the use of one of his legs.

[A year and a half passes, but during this time the girl learns of Eligor’s inability to speak. Despite not having a crystal herself, she manages to learn how to speak to him. Due to his peculiar way of speaking and the fact that he did not have one, she named him Song. She also teaches him how to speak during this time.]

-Eligor and the slave girl learn the basics of magic together, but due to a lack of talent (really the seals) he is unable to do much more than the starting instances of magic before it disperses (such as sparks or embers). During this time the slave girl stumbles upon the puppeteering magic Eligor’s sister gave up on years earlier.

-Tempted by the lure of treasure and a desire to prove their skills, Eligor, his sister, and the slave girl along with a supervisor venture into a living forest in the hopes of returning with a large bounty. Instead they find the forest guardian and nearly die. Eligor manages to break through the seal on his body but is still no match for the guardian. His sister however easily reverses the situation and as a bargain gives the girl some treasure along with a vision of the future: She brings ruin to everything she loves.

[The next six years pass mostly without incident, but Eligor grows closer to his slave and his sister grows increasingly more obsessed over the vision she received.]

-Eligor has discovered his love of creating things, and after much trial and error presents the slave girl with a pair of ring earrings, an act that was unintentionally taken as a proposal.

-Eligor’s sister becomes more crazed, and demands Eligor take her home. Due to his loyalty to her, he goes through a tradition to gain temporary control of the clan (fighting the bandit leader) and directs them to invade Angra Mainyu.

-When the group arrives, the castle is already under attack by an army of monsters, allowing them to somewhat sneak in largely unnoticed.

-The group is split up into smaller groups after being noticed by the castle guard, and then again before the throneroom, leaving the group reduced to Eligor, his sister, slave girl, and the witch.

-Eligor’s sister issues an official challenge to the Abigor, but the years of staving off madness left the Abigor largely unresponsive. As the battle begins, Eligor as a child against the powerful and well trained royal guard (including three of the kingdom knights) he is promptly and easily put into a near death situation. It is at this moment that Slave girl uses the puppeteering magic to stop everyone from attacking further, saving his life.

-The Abigor (Still in her mostly semi-aware state) recognizes the slave girl as a threat and hits her with a combination of lightning and bio magic, melting her.

-Eligor is enraged by the loss of his friend and goes wraith, murdering most of the royal guard immediately after. Despite his surge in power, he is still a child throwing a tantrum to the kingdom’s top knight who carefully (and rather easily) begins to kill him while defending the Abigor. Eligor’s aunt intervenes in an attempt to keep him alive, but in his rage he sees everyone as an enemy, turning the situation into one where he was attacking both the one trying to kill him and the one trying to defend him.

-Eligor’s crying screams snap the Abigor out of her state, and realizing what she had done moves to salvage the situation. Eligor’s sister learns that Eligor is her brother. Using herself as bait, Eligor’s mother allows him to impale her. With his power out of control, Eligor accidentally destroys the mother crystal, causing it to shatter. Acting as both the main power source and the stabilizing component for the castle, it begins to crumble and fall. Using the last of her lifeforce, Eligor’s mother constructs an elaborate and much stronger seal which she places on his catalyst crystal, preventing him from being able to cast at all. The stress accumulated from battle, having gone wraith, and overloading the mother crystal still took their toll despite this however, and Eligor’s crystal cracked—ultimately making the seal the primary reason he survived at all.

-Eligor’s sister is taken from the crumbling castle by his aunt.

-Eligor is protected by his mother’s final barrier as the castle fell, but the shock from falling and crashing into so much debris on the way down still shattered many of his bones.

[Several days pass]

-Eligor is found by a woman with white hair and despite attempting to leave him to his fate, his will to live (by stubbornly clinging to her cloak even after getting stabbed) convinced her to help him.

-Eligor’s never appearing even after the debris was fully cleared lead what was left of the kingdom (now reduced to a clan again overnight) considering him a calamity without equal and vowing to one day hunt him down.

-Eligor earns his title as the Beast.

-Eligor's sister takes over as the Abigor.
