09/27/22 - Amasi meets Eligor

[A'erina]

“I been puttin' it off for too long, and it's better I go, what's the worst he's gonna do to me? Call me names? I'll live.”

“Probably not the best choice of words to tell your two month old baby's father before you head out to go see the person he probably hates the most. But it is what it is, it's better I went instead of him, just incase they get into another one of their stupid dick-flexing contests.”

Decked out in some normal attire, red tank top, grey pants and black shoes, the only new addition to the often regular clothing for outside adventures was the sling wrapped around her chest, with A'masi secured tightly and securely against her back. He was happy, somewhat, as he snuggled against her, seeing the world through blurs of colour as she walked. As far as things went, she questioned whether he was healthy or not. The single streak of white hair coming from the center of his scalp and making their way to his forehead had been concerning hair from the moment she saw it. She knew what it meant, but she refused to acknowledge it. There's no way it could happen anyway, he's a boy, it never happened to the boys in the family. She didn't want him to end up like her. All this aside, she did put off visiting Eligor for some time, even though he specifically asked her to visit once A'masi had been born. Somewhere in the two months leading upto this moment, she decided to just go, and get it over with, without anyone. Of course, she always left the house prepared, her compact, magitek blade sheathed safely on her hip. With aether travel being out of the question because she wanted to keep A'masi in one piece, it meant a slow Chocobo ride or two to get to the Estate, eventually reaching her destination and walking past all the nerds that were around the outside of the building and walking inside, only to be greeted by more squints and nerds as she walked in. She had a little look around to see if she could spot her Eligor amongst them all.

[Eligor]

For once he was not terribly difficult to find, being off in the nearby library of books by his lonesome poring over some tome with an increasingly impatient series of grunts before he puts the book back on the shelf and grabs another to flip through.

[A'erina]

A'erina had been to the estate once or twice, and often ignored anyone that she didn't know or had no business with, most of the time them completely ignoring her in return. A seemingly mutual understanding by all involved. After peering around her eye's would finally notice the red hair atop the small individual burying his face in a book. Walking past all the books, some of which she had skimmed through in previous visits, she stood right behind him, she wanted to ruffle his hair but losing a limb wasn't what she had decided to come for. So she settled on a gentle tap on the shoulder.

“Sorry it's been awhile, Newborns are handful, you know how it is bein' a parent an' everythin', up to my knees in shite and puke. I know I said I'd come and see you, so here I am.”

[Eligor]

Eligor snapped his book shut, sighing as he was tapped. The man looked drained for some reason, like life had been sucked out of him and strained for good measure. He barely reacted to the touch, turning his eyes before his head to face A'erina, his sour expression hardly changing as recognition was apparent.

“….Ah. Erina. To be honest, I did not think you would be coming before the child could walk, all things considered.”

“Having fun being a mother then I take it?”

[A'erina]

“Unless one of yours was walkin' before the year was up, then you would be waitin' a long time, and then I'd probably forget by then.”

A'masi stirred, but was still asleep nestled against her. The sound of her heartbeat and voice all but kept the baby soothed and calm.

“I wouldn't call it fun. His father isn't exactly the brightest, I blame you for that, by the way, y'could have atleast give him some intelligence. I didn't know anythin' about bein' a parent so this is all new to me, and quite frankly, I still don't know what I'm doin'. All I know is he's alive and happy and as far as I'm concerned, that means I'm doing something right.”

[Eligor]

“You think I can just make people smarter? As for being a parent, welcome to the great lie. No one knows what they are doing, no one has a real guide, and everyone is winging it. Unfortunately book knowledge is not at all a replacement for experience in this field, and every experience will be different as each child creates a localized field of chaos on their own.”

“By all means do your best but be prepared to be wrong even when you think you've done everything right at some point.”

[A'erina]

“I didn't say you should make him smarter, I just requested you give him some intelligence, there's a difference. The fuckin' idiot went and– You know what? It's not important. I'm sure he learned his lesson from the whole thing anyway.”

She folded her arms over and listened to what she assumed was parental advice from someone more experienced than she was.

“I'd say I was wingin' it pretty well, got sisters happy to look after 'im when I need a break. But, on the subject of chaos, seein' as i'm here, will he… You know, be able to do things like his dad?”

[Eligor]

“I’m not a fortune teller, I can’t just know what someone is going to be good at. If you’re talking about inheriting traits it’s more than likely the child will, but to what degree is harder to determine—which I believe is part of why I wanted to examine them.”

He turns around, finally facing A’erina properly.

“Seeing as nothing has happened yet, I do not imagine any perks will be negative.”

[A'erina]

“What do you mean yet? Of course nothin' has happened yet, he just pukes and shits and eats and sleeps. Not much perks to those.”

She moves the sling around to her front, baby included as he snuggled against her chest.

“He also has this streak of white hair” She points and runs her fingers over it gently “ That's from me, sadly… He also has crimson eyes like me too but that's as far as the similarities go, he's more F'loki than me.”

She softly runs her hand over the baby's head as she looks at Eligor eventually facing her.

“…And what of this examinin' are you wantin' to do? You just wanna check 'im over right? No proddin' and pokin' things into 'im?”

[Eligor]

“If there were a defect it would have made itself known by now more than likely. I could check but I would need to know what you want me to look for. As I see it there have been no complications so you do not really need me to check anything anymore.”

[A'erina]

“There's no complications yet because he's a baby. He can't do anythin' so it's impossible to tell, there is one thing you could check though. Since no one I know can, except probably you, since you can do a lot of things, apparently. Would it possible to check his aether?”

[Eligor]

“I can. Again, what am I looking for though exactly?”

[A'erina]

“If I had to guess, I'd say more than the normal amounts that you would expect.”

[Eligor]

He looks at the child, then back to A’erina.

“I’m sure you do not need me for that, but the answer is yes, he does seem to have more than usual. I would assume the child is energetic? Perhaps even hungrier than expected? He might walk sooner than expected as well now that I think on it. Besides sleep, I doubt this will be a problem for you.”

[Eligor]

“Did you already name the child?”

[A'erina]

“Of course I need you for that I ain't got no aether sense or whatever its called… An' I gave him the name Masi. Threw in the tribal “Ah” at the front of it because he's my son, after all.”

[Eligor]

“F’Loki can see it I’m more than certain. He needed to be able to determine danger so it’s one of the alterations I included. Have you ever seen his eyes lose color? That would be it.”

He crosses his arms.

“What are you worried about?”

[A'erina]

“I don't want him endin' up like me or my family. It's what always happens, it won't go away… That's why this little shit here had to be a boy, it doesn't seem to effect them as much, might be stronger than most kids, and even some adults, and he'll be prone to havin' a short temper but as far as I know, it's not a male thing.”

She wrapped her arms around the baby, holding him close as she continued.

“It's stupid, all of it. Every generation, someone has to die, it never makes, or made, any sense… Y'know somethin'? I never knew my Grandmother because my mom had killed her before I was born. S'why we got short lives in this family, because everyone is too busy fuckin' killin' each other. Easier to blame it on whatever it is that's always been plagueing us. It's hard to explain, but it does explain the reasonin' behind someone havin' this alter-ego problem. I haven't really spoken to anyone about it but the reason A'masi had to be a boy is because if I have a girl I'll lose it, and then it will be her problem, and then she kills me. It's why I had to keep the idea in secrecy, if someone knew, then it would know and then I'd just keep poppin' out kids until one of them was a girl…” She felt his eyes on him. “…I tried killin' my sister, alright? My grandad intervened before I could attempt anythin' further. That's why my case is different. But my whole idea, is to get to an old age, with this thing, and take it with me. If I don't have anymore children, they can't pass it on endlessly for the rest of time. That's my plan, always has been… I just want to make sure A'masi won't suffer the same fate, and hopefully, thanks to F'loki, he builds up some kind of immunity to it.”

“…Plus if anythin' were to happen to him, I'd like to think I could call on you for help in the matter.”

[Eligor]

“…………You could. I think we all pass things on to our children whether they come from us or not. It’s simply not something we can avoid, but that does not mean it has to be something we do nothing about. You’ve got at least a few years to think about how you can change things if the problem does come up. That’s rather good fortune compared to it being a surprise.”

[A'erina]

“I'm in agreement for the most part, I'm not sure I would handle a surprise very well. I'm not exactly winnin' any parental competitions right now. That's what happens when you have somethin' like an alter-ego that wants to become the dominant personality. I'm havin' to leave him with F'loki or my family because it's pissed with me… Oh! Right, I almost forgot.”

She carefully removes A'masi from the confines of his personal A'erina hammock, holding him out a little towards Eligor.

“Wanna hold him?”

[Eligor]

“Are you certain you want me to? If you’re looking for babysitters I’m likely not the best choice, all things considered. I’m not planning on doing anything dangerous any time soon but it has a habit of finding me regardless.”

[A'erina]

“Just hold the baby you daft bastard. I'm not after a babysitter, I have six sisters.”

A'erina looked around the place for a second with outstretched, baby containing arms.

“…Or do you have to keep up appearances for all these boffins you got workin' for you, huh? Don't want them seein' you got a soft side so you gotta be actin' all cool.”

[Eligor]

He takes the baby, angling it with his smaller arms so he can better support him.

“They work for Novine, not me.”

[A'erina]

A'masi remained asleep for the most part, perhaps opening his eyes very briefly. Presumably the sight of red hair, no matter the contrast or tone, was a little comfort for him, as he drifted back off in Eligor's arms.

“Right right, I knew that, because I spend so much time here I know who's in charge and stuff. You forgot that lummox that lives with me doesn't tell me a great deal, partially because he doesn't want to tell me, but also because I don't want to know…. See! He likes you, I think, that's how babies work, if they sleep or they dont cry, they like you… Probably. ”

[Eligor]

“Obviously. So what are you going to do about your upset other self? Is it going to cause a problem for your child?”

[A'erina]

“…Provided he gets older before I completely lose it, then no, there won't be a problem. I can't say for sure how long it will last, it's always there, clawin' away at my mind, eventually it will break and I'll stop bein' myself so until then I just have to make sure I'm givin' him a good life, bein' the best parent I can be, all things considered. I spent so much time tryin' to find out what this was and bein' told it was some Beast thing associated with Warrior's of old made me realise I was bein' played. So yeah! I just have to take this whole thing day by day, eventually it'll happen, but I got a few years before it does, I'm not as strong as I think but seein' my little boy gives me that little push I need to fight it. All I gotta do is keep myself relaxed and try not to engage in anythin' too demandin' that draws it out.”

[Eligor]

“Planning for defeat is a terrible plan. Your son will find a way to thwart you.”

“Children have the most unique ways of destroying plans you know.”

He offers the baby back to A’erina.

[A'erina]

“…I've tried, I'm not plannin' for defeat I'm plannin' for the inevitable.” She stretches out and cradles A'masi back in her own arms. “If that's what happens, then I'd rather it be my own son than someone or somethin' else.”

[Eligor]

“We will see I suppose. More importantly, when do you think you can do some work here? I was thinking of doing some travelling. Ever spend time out in the Ruby Sea?”

[A'erina]

“I've never even been.”

[Eligor]

“Should be an experience then, no?”

[A'erina]

“Depends on what you mean by an experience. What would be done there?”

[Eligor]

“Gathering samples, potentially establishing a trade route, and possible visiting the Azimme Steppe for some relaxation.”

[A'erina]

“Provided I could get someone to look after the little one, I don't see why not.”

[Eligor]

“What an impossible task.”

[Eligor]

“Be sure to let me know when you’ll be able to do that then.”

[A'erina]

“I have enough family, and Aether travel isn't bad when I don't have him with me since I can do it. So I can just come home at a moment's notice.”

She paced around the room for a little bit.

“A few weeks. I've got some stuff to do at home first, and… waitaminute… Since when do you need me to do work for you lot?”

[Eligor]

“It was an offer. You seem to have a short memory.”

[A'erina]

“Then I'll take the offer, gimme a few weeks unless its important.”

[Eligor]

“Sure. Speaking of sisters, keep in mind that there are more sisters than just your own to choose from as well. In case safety is a concern.”

[A'erina]

“Oh you mean a scary drunk sea bandit, a sociopath who has more issues than me, and R'asha? Sure, I'll make sure to ask the one that seems to still have their head screwed on a little bit.”

[Eligor]

He opens his mouth, closes it, then opens it again.

“You should be above arbitrarily deciding the kind of people they are with limited information, given that you associate with me. Even if your assessment of them is poor, do you think I would bother making mention if I held the same opinion?”

He slumps a bit, then turns around.

“I need more fieldwork. Once I finish with the drunkard I’ll make it a priority to find something worthy to do outside.”

[A'erina]

“Yeah, yeah, I get it. You made them what they are so I don't know anythin' other than what I'm told, blah blah blah.” She mimics flapping gums with her hand before rolling her eyes. “ He's a big boy now anyway, I'm sure he could just go and get his son and make his own decisions about lettin' his sisters look after them.”

She sticks her tongue out at him in some form of childish protest as he turns around.

“I could do with some of the outside myself, now I have someone doin' half of my work for me, I don't need to be at home all the time.”

[Eligor]

“Then we both have something to look forward to in a few weeks time.”

[A'erina]

“Uh-huh. Maybe you can share stories and I get to hear all about what wonderful and magical things you've done when your face isn't buried in a book. That is unless you're going to remain all enigmatic and mysterious on me.”

[Eligor]

“You want my entire history?”

[A'erina]

“How long is this trip going to take?”

[Eligor]

“You’ve never been so probably a few weeks if we go the slow day. A day or three otherwise

[A'erina]

“…Shit. Boats right? Can't it be somethin' else? Can't you take me?”

[Eligor]

“I could, but what’s the rush?”

[A'erina]

“I don't like sailing, I don't like the water… Besides, would you want to be away from your newborn child for a few weeks?”

[Eligor]

“Depends on how safe the child is I suppose.”

[A'erina]

A'erina shrugged. “Have it your way… Just let me know when you want to leave, I'll have everythin' prepped beforehand so there will be minimal fuss while we're gone. Sound good to you?”

[Eligor]

“You just told me to wait a few weeks so…..a few weeks. There you go.”

“I am already prepared enough, and a few weeks would give me time to clear any minor concerns.”

[A'erina]

She narrows her eyes at him. “List– Alright, alright, I get it. I'll see you in a few weeks then, provided you don't get upto anythin' too daft, what with your minor concerns and all that.” She'd turn around, baby in tow, and head out of the estate, raising her hand and waving behind her as she left. “Laters Eligor~”

[Eligor]

He begins looking through the books again smoothly as if he were not just speaking to A’erina moments before, already absorbed once again into his prior distraction.
