The Watcher - 02/27/21
[Tyche]
As Tret busied himself around his new house, and Blue was not home. A certain blue-purple sprite sat on a cabinet watching him, not saying a word until she was addressed. Hoping she would spook him.
[Tretesta]
Tret emerged from the mid floor with a bag of tools, intent on dealing with the upstairs tub today. As his head poked up above the third level, a whump was heard. But… just the sprite. The mans narrowed eyes remained locked on the supernatural being, disappearing from view momentarily, then emerging again as he resumed walking up the stairs. His toolbag in one hand, a wrench in the other now that was not there when he started this adventure “Little Trickster! Sorry, Tyche, perhaps? Apologies if I've said that wrong.”
[Tyche]
She shrugged, “In a means, that is what they called me at one point. But I do enjoy this form, since you are so adamant to reference to me as a trickster. I feel this form suites me nicely in your presence. The creatures that prank others, and torment, just for a laugh. I do admit, I enjoy the sounds of that.” She hopped down, and ran up to him as he continued about. This aetheric form came up to his knee “Such a luxurious splurge you have done here. What do you plan to do with all the space?”
[Rex]
An unusually-stoic frog walks across the room to the fireplace. He catches himself on fire and goes to sleep.
[Tretesta]
“I still believe…” He trails off, watching Rex scoot on by and make himself comfortable. What a guard frog. “…that to fit… Ahem… You did, after all, string us along for quite a while. Clever trick with the extra man that came with us.” Tret relaxed a bit now, dropping the wrench into the bag, Bag near the tub, then he'd lean on the section frame, raising a brow up to his visitor “It's less than Blue deserves. You saw her up there” To this, he tapped the side of his head “Suppose living is the first plan. Maybe one day see about that family you wanted me to think about. or just keep some of her family in here if they need the space for a while. Didn't bother thinking that far, neh?”
[Tyche]
“She not in her true form.” Tyche wiggled around, then looked in the bag, pulling the wrench out, and swinging it like a toy sword. “Does it not bother you?” She looked up, “It was more of a test to come to the accept what you fear the most, I was testing…” She pointed the wrench at him. “Do you wish to start a family in a world you are not from?”
[Tretesta]
“Bother me? Sure. It tears at her, too. But she is still the same woman to me. All the more reason to leave. A family may be in the future. It may not be. The two of us have our issues that would make that difficult. I wish to continue living and to leave at some point. Past that… Bonus, I suppose.”
[Tyche]
Sitting and watching him do the hook ups “So, you have had questions, that certain individuals cannot answer, and I have mused over your curiosity. Speak them.”
[Tretesta]
“Wonderful! I was curious how many questions you would get before I did! And hopefully you'll answer them as honestly as I have. Would hate to think we couldn't trust each other, as close as we've become.”
[Tyche]
She went back to looking through the bag of tools, waving them around with enjoyment. “That is not a question. You get one.”
[Tretesta]
“well, that hardly seems fair at all. You've gotten three now to my one offered. Bleh.” Tret shook his head at the terrible value, reaching into the bag around Tyche and grabbing another wrench. He'd take it over to the tub and examine it for some time. Part of his delay was to make sure he chose the question properly, part of it was to torment the goddess. Mostly the second part.
[Tyche]
She seemed content playing with the various tools like a child trying to help their father.
[Tretesta]
After a bit of time working, Tret spoke up again. “What happens when all four of the pieces you gave us are brought together, or worn by one person, Tyche? And please hand me that screwdriver.”
[Tyche]
she looked at different things, confused which one was 'Screwdriver,' handing him a hammer. “That be a foolish idea.” She grabbed a flathead incase handed that him as well. “Perhaps Astra or A'erina could harness two each, but it would burn the wearer, combining all four them, would cause them to combust.” She smiled, “Unless you wish to go back and retake the trials…. Oh dear Lucatiel in several years may be able to… but we are deemed worthless to each other at this point.”
[Tretesta]
“Close, got it the second time, that one.” He traded off the hammer for the screwdriver she picked up the second time “Combust you say… That sounds unpleasant. Especially if it's the wearer that does so, not the jewelry. Hm. Well, it seems I wasted that question. Terrible. A being from beyond time and locked away forever… And I waste a question. Idiot.” Tret shook his head and rapped it lightly with the tool in hand, then leaned over the tub again
[Tyche]
Mini Tyche did a mini teleport, and sat on the edge of the tub, looking down at the blue haired man. She snickered. “There is plenty of time to award favor, and redeem with questions.”
[Tretesta]
“Plenty of time, and no- <BASTARD!>” He watched a broken screw head clatter down into the tub bottom, sighed in disappointment, then continued “No time at all… I'm not much for patience, Tyche. I tend to work myself Into a frenzy with situations like this. Your answer is nothing but headache for me now, because it really tells me nothing. So now I will begin to hate you, I think. Resent maybe is a better word. The rabbit said to think of the good you can do, but I'm going to have a hard time getting there at this rate.” With a grunt, Tret falls back, sitting down and wiping sweat from his forehead “Perhaps I'll figure out my way home before I figure you out. Then you can see some of the interesting things I left behind.”
[Tyche]
Tyche looked at the broken screw and at the man. Collecting the bits and re-offering them to him whole, and complete. “You are so quick to hate which you do not understand. Destroy what may cause any bit of harm while it does others good. You simply see me as a burden that cannot be released back onto the realm. Yet, instead of having the patience to understand fully, you simply want to destroy that. As time turns, the others will have this luxury, and I will make myself present to them. But you always seem to be the on with the multitude of questions. No, simple means of rejoining the pieces back together on one wearer would not set things in motion for me to return. Simply viewing the world through a new eyes, granted as limited as possible, they are better than what is held at the bottom of that pit. With new eyes, comes new forms, one that is not bond. Granted, your escape was a bit of a trick to help me escape, but I am still trapped.”
[Tretesta]
Tret holds his hand out to take the fixed screw, holding it up to the light to inspect it as he rolled the words around “I see you as an unknown factor. One that I cannot learn about easily. One that may try and harm me and my love. May try to stop me on my path. Because you are stronger than I am and have taken advantage of me. So… I want to know more, of course. I'd love to understand. But I am like a cornered animal. I am not so ready to accept fate if I believe it can be changed, neh?” Tret smiled at this, got up, and set back to work, voice ringing against the basin “If you wish to see the world, this I can do. There may be a lot of chocobos to see, but I'm sure I can show you some interesting things as well. All you had to do was ask.”
[Tyche]
“And I see you as a pet, one that will pass with in time, sadly, nothing is forever, and forever is a long time. Imagine the adorable dog that you pick up as a pup. They grow to trust you, and protect you, yet in the end, you endure and their memory will live on with you.” she swung her legs in a pouty method. “My wishes are not that unrealistic. Maybe in time, when the time is right, and you are far from gone, something with set me back on a method of my origins. For now, I do not have desires of conquer that you may thing. I wish to learn, and it seems that the four of you are not so different from me in this aspect.”
[Tretesta]
“I have no interest in masters or owners. I also know that not all dogs wagging their tails are friendly. Trust must be earned with all creatures. But if you wish to learn, Allow me to show you the marvels of indoor plumbing! If this <mother fucker> will cooperate… Do let me know if there's something I can do to help. I'll certainly do my best if the terms are agreeable…” A panel was popped open, and Tret began inspecting the piping that fed the tub inside
[Tyche]
She clapped, “think of another question while you work, I will grant you that”
[Tretesta]
Tret went deep into the tank. Metaphorically and literally as his upper half disappeared into the paneling of the tub. There was some banging, more cursing, and a little squeaking. Finally, the man emerged again, wiping sweat from his brow again with a kerchief out if his pocket, and he set a wrench and screwdriver aside
“Alright… What is our goal?”
[Tyche]
“Our? As in you and I?”
[Tretesta]
“Are there other goals I should be concerned with right now?”
[Tyche]
She swung her feet. “Not really, there will always be some kind of goal, and the current was to leave that wretched place.” She tapped her chin “Each of you got a different version of me, a different fragments of my power.” With a giggle, “Wonder what yours is…”
[Tretesta]
“I wonder, too! All this time and you're just now talking about powers for each person! See, this is why we talk: To understand. Now my opinion in destroying you is changing!” Tret flashes a smile at the spectre, then begins gathering up his tools “I'm surprised you don't know what you can do for me though.”
[Tyche]
She winked at him. “Maybe that is up to you. To the eye of the beholder. What do you wish for that is out of your reach?”
[Tretesta]
The smile faded, face turning serious at the offer “A way home. But I highly doubt you have that kind of ability even put together. I don't want much, honestly. Life my life, Love my wife, Avoid Strife. The rest is bonus.”
[Tyche]
Mini Sprite Tyche looked around. “But you seem in no hurry to leave this realm, as you have began to make this your home. Is it not a saying home is where the love is?”
[Tretesta]
“We've been here for years, Tyche. We tried the wanderer thing for a while, it is hard long term. Anywhere can be home, yes. But we had a life and more stolen from us. I want it back. I'll burn down this house and others if I must.”
[Tyche]
“What if that was achievable, would you just up and leave the things, and people you have grown close to here to leave tomorrow? Becareful what your wish for. There maybe ways to cross that breech when it happens, but could you say you and your love would be ready to leave now?”
[Tretesta]
“It would not be the first time, and it would be just as hard. But there is more on the line than friendship lost now, Tyche. If I had to make the choice, yes.” Tret rose up slowly, staring hard at the quarter goddess, voice carrying some menace. “If you have this power, tell me now, or let it go. I am not going to be changed on this, and I am not interested in debating.”
[Tyche]
She shook her head. “Here I thought we were bounding.” She made a bit of a pouty face “Nay, I don't have the power to breech dimensional rifts similar to the one you traversed. Doesn't mean there is a method, perhaps you must continue on a journey that allows you to find this. Don't burry yourself in despair because you do not have the answer you want now.”
[Tretesta]
Tret closes his eyes and takes a deep breath, letting out a relaxed sigh “Not despair. Always looking. But if the journey is long, I'm going to be comfortable in the meantime, neh? Apologies. It is a touchy subject for me. Back to my question though, I don't think I got an answer!”
[Tyche]
“Prehaps the answer you seek are not a single, but fragments that need to be put together. It is journey the will not end today, or maybe it will” She chuckled and clapped. “Each day could be a piece to a larger puzzle. Some days that piece may not fit, because it does not have the other pieces to fit yet. In the end, once the puzzle is complete, maybe you can find a way back to your origins.”
[Tretesta]
“I seem to recall putting the fragments together might cause someone to catch fire, which certainly does not sound pleasant. But sure. Keep your answer then. I'll save my question for another time! Make sure its a good one too, none of these vague “But why” type things. You want something from me, I'm not sure what you have to offer in exchange… But I'm sure we'll find out. Right then! I do hope you are more confident with home piping repairs now!”
[Tyche]
Tyche looked at him with a dumbfounded look “Not talking about the accessories” She just facepalmed him.
[Tretesta]
“Come now, Tyche. Give me some credit. Gotta have some fun when someone wants to get lofty and mysterious. This dog is not ready to roll over and give up all the power in the relationship. Might never be, but I'm not looking to bite you either. Yet.”
[Tyche]
She tilted her head, “I do not speak of your answers in means of the four, those have nothing to do with the answer and the bridge you wish cross.”
[Tretesta]
“I know, Tyche. You're being philosophical. every day we find some answers, sometimes to questions we don't have. I'm having fun at your expense because it gives me some power in the matter, neh?”
[Tyche]
“As I am one of four, not really at my expense. Being able to prance around out of an element, this is enjoyable. Prehaps I can't grant you the desire to be stuck in an aetheric state never to leave your home? Sounds like fun!”
[Tretesta]
“Eh, you're as much a person or being as I can expect to deal with, so I'll count you as whole for the time being. I don't know much about aetheric states and such, but your tone makes it sounds like I'm getting screwed, so I'll say….. No.”
[Tyche]
She giggled more, “Good then.” Her attention snapped, she quickly changed into a blue orb, and returned to the bracelet.
[Tretesta]
Tret looked down as the bracelet was inhabited again, shaking his head softly “Could have just stayed home. Kept quiet. kept going. Ah well. We'll see where life takes us I guess….” Tool bag in hand, the man turned back for the stairs, intent to go deal with the waterworks in the basement now. So much work to do to make this house a home.
