01/05/22 - Whispers under Waves

[Tretesta]

Stepping off the ferry, Tretesta took a deep breath and sighed, looking out at the sprawling Lavender Beds district. It was a far cry from the snow, stone, and cold he had just left behind. And… other things. His body gave a full shudder and he pressed on, taking his sweet time and enjoying the relative quiet of walking home.

He pushed past the front gate and gazed up towards the roof of his home. The Seat of House Kerberion and a little removed from other lower houses of Ishgard. Removed so much in that it was not on the list to begin with. Small details. The door creaked open, and a weary and traveled voice called in. “<Hello?> Girls? Are we home? I'm back!”

<Maybe they went out? Did not see Derrick snoozing in the yard…>

[Blue]

It would be half a bell before the girls in question would return with Derrick in tow, who had seemed to sense their arrival before Tret's own. Or maybe he liked them more, who could tell. The trio arrived at the gates and after receiving enough pats to satisfy the big bird, Blue and Sura wandered back into the house.

The Miqo'te bounded off and found Tret first. She carried a small sack in one hand and stared up at him with bright eyes.

“You're back! Was it cold?”

Blue, who resisted the urge to bound off, closed the door behind them and wandered in with a giggle.

“We missed you, Love. Did things go well?”

[Tretesta]

In the living room, Tret was relaxed quietly on the couch. In one hand a glass of dark liquid. in his other, an inkpen picked up from the Jeweled Crozier. A notebook lay on his leg with some small drawings and an assortments of notes scattered haphazardly across the page. The sound of the door opening drew his attention immediately, and Tret would move the book and glass away just as Sura leaped into the scene. He smiled at the child and looked up as Blue came around the corner as well, answering them both.

“Missed you both more than you'll know. It was quite cold, but it went… well enough. Come here, both of you!” He patted his leg then opened his arms invitingly. One or both would surely take the irresistible bait of his trap…

[Blue]

It was a crummy trap in general, and both ladies would pounce the moment he opened his arms, giving Tret the tightest and most affectionate of hugs. Sura was the first to wiggle off and station herself on the opposite end of the couch, opening her pouch and plucking grapes off from the bunch hidden within. She popped them into her mouth happily.

Blue squeezed him tighter before releasing and hopping up to her feet again.

“We went to Summerford Farms this morning. Can't stop there without getting some fruit that doesn't usually grow around here.”

Sura nodded and offered Tret one with an outstretched hand.

[Tretesta]

For the moments that he had them both, Tret closed his eyes and sighed happily, then turned to watch Sura run off from him to snack. Little scamp. He started to reach for her again when Blue ran off too! This wouldn't do… He reached one hand out slowly for Blue, snatched her wrist and pulled her back into his lap for a hug. Then he took the offered fruit and beamed at the little girl. “Vrylbrand then? What's going on out there worth a day trip?”

[Blue]

Blue chirped as she was tugged back in. This time she stayed, cuddling close.

“Pretty Butterfly talking.” Sura replied before the Xaela could, popping another grape into her mouth before looking over to her mother figure.

“I'll play with Rex now.” She declared soon after, running off and bounding up the stairs. One could hear a thump and a surprised half-croak from above.

Blue hummed and bent forward to kiss Tret on the cheek.

“Want to come downstairs with me? I want to tell you about a visitor.”

[Tretesta]

“Swear to god you could not exhaust her if you tried…” Tret mused and shook his head as Sura ran off. He turned a smile back to Blue and nodded, scooping her up and bearing her out of the room, down the hall, and down the stairs to the basement “Butterflies and visitors, eh? Sounds like quite the day. Better than mine at least…” Once downstairs, he looked around a bit, then stepped over a low wall to sit down on some cushions near a cherry tree sapling in a large pot, keeping Blue close for the time being.

[Blue]

Blue didn't resist being carried down the steps, reaching up to tap at his cheek.

“I'm not so sure, we can compare notes though.” She kicked her legs idly until he set them both down. Coincidentally, he'd plopped down right in front of the cherry tree sapling that held a little something extra within its pot. She stretched out and pulled a vial from the soil with red colored liquid within and cupped it between her hands.

“The Thing that was in Eligor came to visit me and gave me this. Sis might get hurt soon and this should help treat her. Or so it says.”

[Tretesta]

Slowly raising a brow, Tret would gently take the vial and raise it up to examine it “… So many questions. So many. sigh Been meaning to get back over there and check in with him. Whose is it in here? Not yours of course. since it gave this to you.”

[Blue]

“It says it's Eligor's Blood. And uh…some of mine too. That was added in.” Blue had a sheepish expression on her face.

[Tretesta]

“…Of course you did. So… Help me out here. Why add yours?”

[Blue]

“I was a little upset at the time. Blood is so important in this world for whatever reason. If what's in this vial is really needed to keep my sister together, then she can also have whatever strength I can lend her, if there's anything to be had in me.”

“…Or maybe Eligor's blood is acidic and it's already gone. I don't think it should do any harm, and Sis watched me do it anyway. I feel like she might panic more otherwise.”

[Tretesta]

“…I notice you also still have it, even though you apparently showed it to her and she watched you add your own blood. Did she tell you to hold onto it or…?”

[Blue]

“She didn't tell me to get rid of it. She didn't seem concerned.” The Xaela sighed and stretched, curling her fingers out and bending back against Tret briefly.

“The Thing has said that Eligor wants to take Veldi's grimoire for some reason and Sis didn't know what he'd possibly even need it for. Still, that's no reason to let down your guard, you know? If he wants it for something bad, she won't give it, but…it's stuck to her. It's part of her. If he tries to rip it out I…don't know how she's going to take that. Just imagining it fills me with dread.”

[Tretesta]

“… That feels all the more troubling. Normally she is a nervous wreck, but she wasn't fazed at all?” He gives the glass another look, sighs yet again, and sets it gently on a cushion beside them “… I would imagine it will go terribly. Hopefully she is able to get ahead of him now that she knows what's going on. But… Even with the book, she has not done well against him. or It. That feels relevant. If she can't deal with them with the book, what are they going to be able to do with it?”

[Blue]

“I don't know. Veldi's stubborn but she's smart, I'm sure she's trying to figure it out for herself now. I met with Novine this morning and asked her to check on her father and see if she could find out anything.”

[Tretesta]

“Butterfly. I thought maybe as much. I suppose she hasn't seen anything interesting then before you called?”

[Blue]

Blue shook her head. “Nothing that's unusual besides being more tired. He didn't look to great when he ended up on our doorstep either, but I don't know if that might just be because of the Thing doing the talking.”

[Tretesta]

“Which makes me all the more worried. maybe some research results will distract him a bit. Or give him more to think about. Maybe we'll just go fishing or something and I can convince him to take a nap.”

[Blue]

“Still, there's a plan. Something might be happening. I'm worried for my Sister.”

[Tretesta]

“A loose plan, sounds like. We may should be worried. She's up and moving what feels like pretty quick after being half feral, like you described before…”

[Blue]

Blue perked up proudly. “She's quite strong, I'm not surprised at all!” She sighed and made grabby hands for the vial.

“But if something does happen, I'll tend to her best as I can. I wish the healing I've been learning could be of some use though.”

[Tretesta]

Tret takes a grabby hand and interlaces his fingers into hers “I'll find somewhere to tuck it away that's safe, no worries. Extra security, neh? You keep up your work. You'll certainly help people. Me in particular.”

[Blue]

Blue pouted and reached with her other not-interlocked hand. “I need to be the one to know where it is, and I'll have you know it was quite safe in that pot. Who would check a plant? Trust me, I'm gonna guard it with my life.”

[Tretesta]

With a quiet chuckle, he takes the vial and places it in her free hand, not yet releasing her other “Knowing you? First place I'd be looking. But I suppose not everyone know you as well as I do. We'll see what happens. You know, I was thinking. Should invite her over for dinner. Like regularly. have a standing invitation or something. Or just have her come out on a particular day each week.”

[Blue]

Blue squeezed his hand affectionately while the other carefully kept the vial safe between them. “I'll move it everyday between plants. Do you know how many types of plants we have down here? Would take anyone forever to find!” The Xaela giggled in spite of herself, then beamed at Tret's suggestion.

“I've told her time and time again that she's always welcome here, but I fear she worries too much. You know I'd love to see her every week. I'm sure she knows that as well. Perhaps you might do better to alleviate her fears with your type of invitation though. If she becomes a regular, we may need to bring more alcohol into the house.”

The Xaela hummed. “You probably wouldn't mind that.”

[Tretesta]

“Theres a difference between just letting someone know they can come whenever and explicitly telling them to come on a specific day. I'll see about asking though. Doesn't have to be anything special. Just a meal and some time together. Not worried about the alcohol really. I wonder sometimes if she and Ellie drink for the same reason… Hm. But yeah, I'll have to try and find her. or something. might be fine just to call.”

[Blue]

“To that end, we should invite Yoake for dinners as well. You are her ward, aren't you?” She teased before tapping her cheek. “Though I don't know if she's left for the East yet or not.”

[Tretesta]

“I don't believe she has, no. She has been remarkably self sufficient in all this time. Not entirely sure what it was Ellie wanted me to do for her, but she has been taking life by the head and making it work… Could invite her though, yes. Just start a rotation of frequent dinner guests.”

[Blue]

“…We'll need to get a bigger table, the one in the kitchen barely fits the both of us, it's a good thing Sura is still little.”

[Tretesta]

“tables are easy to find, no worry. I'll get people to agree to come Then worry about bigger tables and more chairs. Or we'll all just eat in the living room. extra chairs there!”

[Blue]

Blue smiled and nodded. “That does sound nice.” She wriggled a bit and rubbed her face against his cheek. “Anyway, just thought I'd keep you up to date. Though I did sort of take over our conversation. Ishgard was cold but that's all I've really gotten from your trip.”

[Tretesta]

Tret's smile started to fade as the topic switched back to Ishgard and he fell silent for a few beats. Finally, he spoke again “… 'Luna's father is a terrible man' is the most of what I learned today. I don't know who or what he used to be, but he is simply terrible. Irredeemably so. But Luna says he must live, for some reason. I may spend some time trying to make what's left of his life miserable, because I'm quite sure he does not deserve to be happy.”

[Blue]

“…Ah.” Blue frowned. “I suppose I'm not really surprised, though I can't say I've spoken to her personally about her own family, only encouraged her to keep being that very thing for Luca. Still, is he that bad to wish death upon? Did he not wish to work with the two of you?”

[Tretesta]

“He abused her. In the worst ways. the worst. Ways.” Tret's gaze was unfocused and aimed in the direction of the cherry sapling “… And he seems fixated on doing more of it even now. Or that others are. That nothing he did was out of line. And yes, he did not wish to cooperate at first. I should have let Luna do more, really. She's justified, but she'd never be able to live with herself.”

[Blue]

The Xaela's earfins flattened and she nodded slowly. “…Okay. That's fair then. I'm surprised she even wants that house at all then if it has nothing but terrible memories and bitterness.”

[Tretesta]

“Not fair at all. And I said much the same. Very much. But… She wants to drag the name out of the mud and make it worth saying. And do it all the slow and legal way. I am… Less patient. But I can't go kick in the door and help him off the the aetherial sea. So I'll find something else to make me feel better.”

[Blue]

She hummed and squinted at her partner. “What're you planning then? Not gonna find a means to make his end come sooner I hope.”

[Tretesta]

“Oh no. Can't be involved in anything like that. I'm a top suspect if something did happen, even if I find the best alibi. Luna will drag me out and make sure I go to jail. Even if I don't do anything! Gotta make sure people know he's alive for as long as possible.”

[Blue]

“Did you do something to make yourself suspect? You're charming n' all, supposed to let people's guards down, not up.”

[Tretesta]

“well, I was there and received some abuse. And I mentioned she should burn it all down and start fresh. And maybe mentioned a few times Luna would be fine ending him early. So, you know. He dies so suddenly after I visit? Me or her, likely.”

[Blue]

“If he's that terrible, I would have started pummeling him anyways, so it's better that you went. That Thing threatening Veldi got my blood boiling. I don't know if I can handle prolonged threats or insults. Fists and fangs and claws are the much swifter response to such.”

[Tretesta]

“Its not my trouble to deal with, really. It's Luna's. and if she says not to hurt him? Well, its not up to me. She's a big girl and is dealing with this how she feels right. If I go around her on my own? Well, I'm fighting her too.”

[Blue]

“I'd watch.” Blue offered playfully before shrugging her shoulders. “You're right. Ah well. It's mostly done then on your end. I'm glad you're back.”

[Tretesta]

“Me, too. Me, too.” He finally looked down at Blue again and smiled “Wanted nothing more than to be home, take a shower, and just be with the two of you after time in that house. We chose a great place to stay, rather than wander around in Coerthas…”

[Blue]

“I was fine with the cold, once. But nah, the warmer the better now. It rains a bit too much here sometimes, but it's good then that I love rain too.” She grinned and kissed him on the lips. “Plus they're still all huffy about dragon this dragon that. Or….Halone this and Halone that. And then it's still cold!” The Xaela shuddered, then perked up again with a grin.

“Wanna see what Sura's up to then and see about what we might have for a meal today?”

[Tretesta]

“Yeah. Lets go up and see what she's gotten into. Food… I'm not sure. we'll see whats in the cabinets.” with a grunt, he'd get back up, still cradling Blue, and turn from the sapling “Shall we?”

[Blue]

Before Tret began to move, the Xaela hurriedly placed the vial back in its secret spot before giving a nod and being lifted up again.

“We shall!”
